Camaro on MT Cover - Also GTO Dead?
Camaro on MT Cover - Also GTO Dead?
The March 2006 Motor Trend has the Red Camaro on the cover and a few pages of interesting info. Check out the PDF below, on the 2nd page MT claims for certain that there will be no new GTO. Does this mean only Camaro, or does this open the possibility for Firebird/Trans Am? Interesting:

Re: Camaro on MT Cover - Also GTO Dead?
I think that Motor Trend's assertion that Pontiac will be a more focused niche brand is an excellent one, and I hope GM is thinking along the same lines-- over-duplication has long been a problem with GM's brands-- and (sorry to you Flamin' Chicken fellas-- but) the Firebird is a perfect example.
Pontiac now has the Solstice GXP-- it's a pretty damned nice sports car y'all-- even if it's not to the tune gearheads might first think of. I seriously don't see them bringing back the Firebird or T/A (at least anytime soon), since their goal of honestly differentiating themselves from Chevy would be better served by developing unique(ish) Ponti's instead of me-too copies.
JMHO-- cheers

Yeah, I don't trust a single word Motor Trend says. If you read some of the stuff in that mag, you will see a number of little-shots taken at GM. It gets so old.
There is also a nice picture of the red camaro on the cover of Road and Track.

I don't know about the rest of you, but I just want a date as to when the Camaro will be ready for us to buy one. My T/A is 10 years old already! Its time for a new ride, but I'm still gonna keep my 4th gen. Do you think GM is honestly still deciding whether their gonna build this car or not. They have no choice, they can't let Ford and Dodge own the pony car market. I guess their just waiting to give us an accurate date of when the car will be ready?? I just hate having to wait.

I've been fortunate to buy a new Trans Am and two new Camaros, and my wish is that GM put all of its development money into ONE car, as Ford did with the Mustang. Just make the Camaro right, and make it good, OK?
Re: Camaro on MT Cover - Also GTO Dead?
yeah M/T said Zetas dead Camaros dead etc.
Those are the best pics Ive seen of the concept so far! I havent seen shots that made the car look this much like an updated 69. Also the cowl doesnt look as insignifigant. I love it! I want more like them...

Well look at what Chyrstler does. 300C, Charger, and Magnum. hmm. they all seem to have the same interior. closely resemble one another, could be used as a boat anchor. Yet you say that GM is have the copy cat problem. I honestly belive GM needs a performance car in every devision. Buick needs something that could compete with lexas come on all they sell is luxuary cars that old people drive??? Pontiac needs the GTO in my books. if you take it away you are just degrading the Pontiac name away from performance. The G6 is a good car but they need something to compete with the Charger. I honestly belive if GM would come out with something new and fresh for the GTO it would be great. And another thing if GM is just going to but all of its nuts in one basket with performance they would already have stopped makeing Camaros and Firebirds way before they did. they would have just developed the Corvette. GM should also build a lot of their cars on one single chasise. for example the 300C, Charger, and Magnum. they could have the Zeta platform. build the Impala, Camaro, GTO,and a performance Buick. this would make cost go way down with the fact that many parts could interchange with one another and that the cars could be built in the same factories.
And a side note Motor Trend just needs to crawl in a hole and die. If it aint from Germany its crap. they look at GM and Ford as crap, but Chrystler is God's gift to earth. Conincidence i think not their own by Mercades.
