Camaro Motors

Not sure if this was posted or if the info is out there but had a couple GM engineers with the new CTS-V and the Zr1 at my dealership getting some work. Talked with them for a while they did say they are about 4 months behind on the Camaro but did let out that there will be the V6 and 2 V8 one being the 6.2L and the other being a supercharged Z28.

Bad news they said GM is having trouble with pricing as the Z28 or Supercharged version will top the price of a base Vette. They said it would be hard to put a car to market that would perform better than a base vette and be cheaper.

I'm thinking the Z28 or Top Dog will be a "limited" production and that will be how they can justify the cost/faster than a vette thing. I doubt there will be more than 1500 units per year.

the vette will sell regardless of how the camaro performs.. the vette i'm sure will still handle better and look more like a true sports car with modern styling..

I think it shouldn't be all that big a deal if the SuperMaro is more expensive than a base Vette. It is supposed to be a limited edition car.

soo..the base 2008 Vette costs $44,500...that's pretty pricy. And I don't care if the top V8 Camaro is a limited run...so long as the base V8 is not! Another thing...if the top level Camaro is priced higher than a base Vette...I feel as though there may be potential top level Camaro buyers that drive off the lot in a Corvette...that would be my only fear. But this is the truth...if the top level Camaro is priced above a base Corvette....I DEFINITELY won't be getting one of those

I'm calling on that notion.

What he means by "top the price" is that the Z/28 will be cheaper than the base model 'Vette. It's a possibility, if the Z/28 isn't the same size as the GT500, that the Z/28 might outrun a base model 'Vette.

If that is what he meant, then I agree. However, that is not what he wrote.

Bring it!

I don't see a problem with a supercharged Z/28 performing better than a base Vette and being cheaper. First, the Vette is a two seater, the Z/28 is a 2+2. You don't find much cross-shopping between those two configurations. Second, the Vette has it's own mystique and heritage and while many may want to move "up" to a Vette, I doubt many Vette owners will move "down" to a Camaro. Lastly, the Z/28 will be a hot car, but folks won't abandon the Vette - especially long term. And you can bet the Vette team will have some ideas on how to beat the Z/28. Frankly, I see a little intercompany rivalry as a REALLY good thing! We know Camaro will destroy Rustang, how impressive would it be for it to beat a Vette? I'm excited about the idea!

it would make sense that it would, especially since it will probably beat the vette in most of the popular performance aspects.

Got to run up the flag and call BS on this one...$46950 is MSRP for a 1LT Corvette coup...the 5th Gen car will have to be priced less than the
Corvette...it will have to be priced near the mustang or you will see the same thing that happened last time...the 4th gen was $5K and $6K more than the mustang and it killed the car...GM has said that the 5th gen will be price competitive with the mustang

Not when your talking about a limited production super-car. I don't think the Z28 is going to have any significant influence on sales numbers for the Camaro. So, pricing it isn't as big a deal as, say, pricing the V6. Plus, any good car with over 500 horses is going to be super expensive, (i.e. $45+). And they've already said that they aren't too concerned about stepping above the base Vette. Lets face it: something that's going to perform a little better will probably cost a little more, too.
