Camaro may be announced tomorrow... but
Re: Camaro may be announced tomorrow... but
The best way to make everyone happy is simply to give them choice. Make the car easy to mod, if you don't want to mod it then don't. But give people who want to make their car faster the chance too without having to jump through 50 hoops.

quick hijack of my own thread...
dag! that's great. i'm happy for you... now what's your secret??? LOL
i have started autoX the GTO cuz the torque management doesn't affect that and she does really, really well in bone stock form!
if the new Camaro is like the GTO i can totally live with that. the GTO rocks and it's sad more people don't give it the respect i think it deserves. i just worry about what's in the pipeline with these crazy modules.

My GTO recently gave me the best ET I've ever achieved with any of my cars owned so far, including my 02 LS1 Trans Am. (Keep in mind - I'm a horrible track driver and don't have time to be heavily into modding my cars). TQ mgmt isn't a big issue to me... but transmission longevity IS.

About to get T-boned by a drunk driver? Your airbag controller will fire seat belt pretensioners and side curtain airbags before you even blink. Forget to turn your dome light off? Your body controller module will shut it off for you and save your battery. Misjudge a freeway ramp in the snow? Stability controller will help guide you safely to a stop on the shoulder. I'll eagerly trade off some mod-ability for all those functions.

All of these functions you have mentioned probably would not affect modability much. It is all a matter of if GM locks the factory PCM on the car or not, and where the placement of the actual mechanical stuff on the car is that will affect the car's modability. Ever drive an fbody in the snow? I am not sure how much stability control is going to help. Traction control certainly doesn't.

Sorry about my 'mentality'... but it's majority rule out in the cold cruel world.

Stereo equipment shouldn't be that much of a concern anyway. It is never that hard to get around the factory stuff with the right know how.

Couldn't afford a winter beater at the time, so I drove on the factory all seasons year one, then a set of "snow shoes" the second year!
A4, 2.73's, no traction control ..... made it through more than I expected it to!
