Good point on the dealer mark-up, it will keep me from buying the top dog as soon as it comes out. It seems most hot cars are markep up 5-8K, and the Z06 I've seen as high as 20K. How much business do mark-ups take away? I guess for everyone of us that won't pay the mark-up there's someone else who will.

 

If I was in the market I would be buying first year.. On alot of things in the past it was better to wait, but the way GM has been putting out cars lately it seems to me that you don't have much to worry about unless you want more power..

 

Depends on when it comes out. I have a year left on my truck loan, and if I have it paid off by then, I will wait about 6 months to save up for a good down payment.

 

I've learned my lesson many times, wait a year before you buy it. Something gets fixed or improved, price drops, or a new model that you would have wanted comes out.

 

For me it'll depend on what the Corvette does.

GM always puts the new motor in the Corvette a year earlier than the f-body. If GM puts a new motor in the Corvette the same year that the Camaro comes out, I'll wait a year. If the Corvette and the Camaro have the same motor in the Camaro's first year, I'll probably get one provided I can find a dealer with enough class to sell it at sticker.

 

I'd either buy a late first year, or the very first of the 2nd year.

I'm glad I waited on my Colorado and got the '05 in Sept. '04 I know a dealer that will sell to me for $100 over invoice. There were some little changes to the truck for '05 that made me glad I went year 2.

 

realistically i wont be able to afford it right out of the gate but if i could i would wait 2 or 3 years, heres why

• i dont want an engine upgrade like the first year gto or SSR
• i would like to see them get some recalls out of the way
• got to keep an eye out for a great deal, no point in rushing
• im counting on the camaro being around for a long time

 

Wait till they get the kinks worked out, so 2nd or 3rd year. Assuming I'm in the market of course.

 

I'm going to wait till I can use my GM card to it's fullest.

 

I found out, to my great disappointment, that when buying a C6, for example, the most discount you can get off your GM card is $1,000. Even if you have way more "credits" on it. I would imagine that will be a limit on the amount of discount for the new Camaro, as well. Pi$$ed me off!

I think more than likely the dealers will make my mind up for me. Look at the way they tacked on "desirability fees" (or something along those lines) ON TOP of the retail price of the first year of the C5, C6, now the C6 Z06 Corvettes.

I would be extremely surprised if they didn't do the same for the 5th Gen. These things are going to be desirable, you can count on dealer greed raising its head the first year or two.

My guess would be at least $5000 extra. If that does end up being the case, no thanks, I'll wait.

 

As I understand, it's always been 1000-1500 for the Corvettes. But I can't see such a limitation being put on a mass-produced car like the Camaro. I'd at least hope for around 2000.
