The new camaro has a whole list of safety goodies which could be why its quite small in the back.
This is definitely a factor in the interior space. The new Camaro has side airbags and all kinds of other modern post-4gen safety built in. In fact one way the 4gens seem to 'gain' a little rear headroom is to extend the rear glass over your head. In a crash involving an upward acceleration (such as a trip thru a ditch where the car gets 'vaulted') your head could go right up thru the glass of the rear hatch

I think the rear seat space of the new Camaro needs to be kept in perspective. I believe most would agree, the car's stunning good looks are a key to its popularity today. I recall that many were delighted how close the production car was to the concept (I am too)... well rear headroom was one of the tradeoffs for that. The rear room in the Camaro has been compared to the 04+ GTO herein - but having sat in both now (and owned an 05 GTO) I'd say that there was more room in the GTO but it was a real challenge getting in (AND OUT) of the GTO... not just due to the slow seats but to the tiny door openings.

The new Camaro's pop-slide front passenger seat is a real help in ingress/egress for rear passengers, as are the big doors. It also seems the non-sunroof cars have a little more rear headroom. I sat in a 2010 Camaro at a dealer recently. I adjusted the front pass. seat forward as much as I could and still be comfy there, with a reasonable recline angle. Then I got in the back. I found (I'm 5'9") it to be livable in the back and it seemed to be a tiny amount more rear legroom than my 4gen. In fact IIRC the interior specs on Edmunds show one inch or so more rear legroom officially for the new Camaro, vs the 4gens. I believe my kids (9 and 12) will enjoy being in the back of my 5gen Camaro more than they do my 4gen Trans Am, partly due to them both having a side window.

I think the pix herein are a little misleading since the seats in the 2010 seem to have more travel than the 4gens did. YMMV

Challenger has quite a bit more head and leg room. Four full grown adults can ride in the Challenger comfortably - at least for a while.

I heard there are issues with getting into the seat that sits directly behind the driver on the new Challenger. From what I hear only the front passenger seat allows rear seat access while the front drive seat doesn't.

Do you know if that's true?

I'm 5' 10" and can fit in the back of the 2010. I fit a little better in the 4th gen - it has more headroom, but on the other hand the 2010 has a higher H point which would actually be a bit more comfortable in theory, if your head didn't hit the roof.

In any event, I can sit behind myself in both cars.

When you stated 2010, we're referring to the Camaro or Challenger?

That is true - the Challenger doesn't have an "easy access" driver's seat. It doesn't automatically slide forward when you move the seatback.

My Cobalt is the same way - you essentially have to have everyone get in on the passenger side. But it was a lot cheaper than a Challenger...

what does the weight of the vehicle have to do with the rear seating capacity? i dont ever plan on putting anyone in my back seats. most cars only have back seats for insurance reasons. i dont think this is the camaros case. but who really wants to sit in the back seat of a car like this? not me. id rather be up front.

Who has the better back seat set-up? The Challenger or the new Camaro?

Challenger has larger back seats but you can only access them on the passenger side while the Camaro has less rear space but passengers can access the rear seat(s) on both sides of the car.

why wouldnt you be able to getin on the driverside to the back seats in the challanger? just move the seat forward and fold it up. just because it may not have a lever, doesnt meen you cant get in from the driver side.

You are the first person here to state that you can access the rear seats on the driver's side of the Challenger.

Well, you "can" access it on the driver's side from the Challenger, you just have to wait for the power seat to slide all the way to the forward position and then manually power it back and find your "spot" since the seat won't automatically go back into the place that it was.

im not stating its possible, but what makes it so impossible? does it not have a forward and backwards lever or switch? does it not fold forward or lean back? i dont see why you couldnt get in it if it has these functions.
