Is my fuel pump dying?

I have noticed the last few days my fuel pumps hum sound has gotten LOUD and never stops. Could this be a sign the pump is going out? The car has 130k miles and I have never ran it dry since I have owned it. I run only premium fuel. It has been about a year since I did my last fuel filter change, think this could be an issue?

changing the fuel filter if the pump is weak will kill it. i have seen this a thousand times. my recommendation is drive it till it dies or check the pressure and volume and replace if anything is suspect

Cool, thanks for the input. Is the extremely loud humming it is making a sign it is going out? It is loud enough I can hear it over my exhaust.

It does it at all times. At first I thought it was my radio, but I turned it off and it was still there. It is the same sound it has always made, but it has never been this loud, and usually once the car ran for a bit it would quit, but now it hums non stop.

at 168,000 mine was hard to start. I used my a/c charging hose/gauges to test fuel pump press at injector manifold. After the fuel pump would cycle the pressure would immediately drop. So I put a pump in from o-reillys, after cutting a access hole in the trunk. It starts right away now and holds pressure after shutdown. I would at least cut your hole, and make a access panel in case the car dies away from home. It only took me 30 minutes to change the pump thru the trunk opening.

Mine used to have a steady hum, but now it's really shakey and unsteady, I was about to change my fuel filter until I read byron's post. Too bad you have to buy the whole fuel pump assembly nowadays .
