Window Motor

Are third gen and fourth gen window motors the same? Also is there a difference between left and right window motors? I had a thirdgen project car, 83 Trans Am, that is unfortunatly no longer with us that I had ordered new window motors for. Now one of the window motors in my wifes 95 Firebird is no longer working and I would like to use what I have instead of ordering a new one if that is possible.

Thanks,

Robyn

Re: Window Motor

I need 2. Is there a better aftermarket one?

Where can I get a couple stock or aftermarket?

Sorry, didn't mean to hijack your thread. Just didn't want to start two threads about the same topic.

Re: Window Motor

You can get them on ebay for ~ $12. I just put two in the '93, and they work fine.

Take a look at the pics in the guide for replacing the motor on my Tech Page. If you have the 3rd gen motors, you can maybe see if they look the same. There is no difference in L and R motors on a 4th gen.

My post about this just got moved to the general forum a day or 2 ago - the link is where you can find it. All you really need is Shoebox's guide on how to replace the motors and a $46 window motor from autozone if you don't trust ebay. Lifetime warranty, good stuff. Just do a quick search for the window replacement guide.

Robyn, I know that the motor works for 93-02, but I don't know about anything earlier. I put int he part number I got from autozone (WL42014) and your model year (83 trans am) and it appears to register as a working part - not sure though. Only one way to REALLY know for sure EDIT: Gah shoebox beat me to it - yeah compare the motor picture...

Re: Window Motor

Well, on that ebay page that was put up, it said it only fits 93-2002. But, I've heard of people even rigging Ford window motors to work in our cars, so anything is possible. Ford window motors are so much faster.

Re: Window Motor

PLEASE post on the correct forum.... "window motor" questions don't belong on "LT1/LT4 Engine Tech". That's why z28Power's thread was moved to "General...." as will this one.

Don't worry injuneer I know why it was moved; I wasn't questioning that at all
