Could this be a solution for removing ASR, keeping ABS?

I was messing around with the car today in the garage trying to take care of my ABS / ASR / Airbag idiot lights. My ASR and ABS lights are on because I removed my ASR motor. If I plug it back in, both lights shut off.

Since there are no data connectors on the motor I assume that the PCM or ABS module only knows that the motor exists based on resistance. With a multimeter I discovered that the ASR motor measures in at just over 2 ohms.

Is it possible to simply loop a resistor in place of the motor and fool the system into thinking all is well? I realize this is only half of the equation (The full ASR uses timing retard and occasional braking in additional to the throttle cable slack), but at least this might give guys a chance to remove the ASR motor, hit the "ASR OFF" button and still retain ABS.

Anyone have more info on this?

I dont think it would still give you ASR but it would remove your light on the dash. Try it and see. If both lights come on then they must be tied together hint the ABS unit controls some braking which then the timing retard would kick in then the throttle cable slack. Makes since so give it a try.

You're right, the car wouldn't have full ASR, but remember that ASR is more than just the huge honkin' electric motor over the driver side valve cover. When ASR kicks in it can also tweak how the brakes are applied as well as alter ignition timing (in the case of launching with ASR left on). So although your throttle cable wouldn't be messed with, the ASR system would still be trying to do it's job.

Bottom line, you'd keep ABS... or so I hope.

Sorry to dig up an old thread but has anyone tried using a resistor, I don't care if I still get the timing retard, I mainly just want to get rid of that ugly motor? I am gonna try it as soon as I get around to it but just curious if anyone has tried this?
