Trans brake engages reverse and first at the same time so you can not move and you load the trany (although it does not load suspension) release trans brake it disengages reverse and gives you a severe shock.

Powerglide brakes use first and reverse. All the turbo trannys use first and third no matter who's transbrake you use. I use a Turbo Action transbrake.

A transbrake is a specially designed valve body and an electric solinoid. When the tranny is in first gear and the brake is engaged it directs fluid to the third gear circuit which will lock the tranny in 2 gears at once. When the brake is released all the fluid for third gear is dumped and the car launches forward in first.

A transbrake allows you to bring the engine rpm up to the torque converter's stall speed although you don't always have to bring the rpms up that high if the track is slick. The vehicle brakes can never hold back the car trying to do this. Using a transbrake is like using a manual transmission and doing a high rpm clutch drop. It has about the same effect on the driveline with a huge shock load.

I built up a TH400 with a transbrake. At the same time, I got rid of the 7.5" diff for a 9" and got a 3" x .083" steel driveshaft made with 1350 series u-joints.
