LT1 or LT4 VIN Numbers

High i have done a tear down on my 95 Z28 and i am trying to find out it if the intake and heads are LT4's. I have the VIN and was wondering if there was a website someone could direct me to so i can figure this out. Also i am getting the engine rebuilt and was wondering if i could use the intake even if it is an LT1. I assume it could they would just have to remove some more meat from the runners and whatnot seeing how the LT4's have raised runners. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Re: LT1 or LT4 VIN Numbers

FYI, even the LT4 Firehawk/SS cars had LT1 VINs and RPOs. The engines weren't changed by GM, but by SLP.

As to using the LT4 intake on an LT1, it's really not worth all the effort. The main difference in the LT4s is in the heads. Even if using LT4 intake and heads, the intake still doesn't really match the heads and should be ported for max performance.

Re: LT1 or LT4 VIN Numbers

well i think the previous owner had done a LT4 conversion and that is why i asked because i am not sure. I will also be using 210 AFR heads and was wondering if it was worth it to buy an LT4 intake (if the i have right now isn't) or just get the LT1 manifold ported and matched to the 210's. So no one knows a website or where i can match the vin numbers to see if i do have an Lt4 conversion?

Why do we even post answers when you obviously don't read them.

I don't see how a VIN is going to help you at all. The VIN is on the body and the engine block. There is no VIN info on the heads or intake.

Even if the previous owner did an LT4 conversion, do you think he went back and altered the VIN # to reflect it? And as you've been told, there is no information in the VIN regarding anything other than whether the engine is a V6 or a V8.

Might explain why no one knows a website.

Re: LT1 or LT4 VIN Numbers

This is hardly accurate, but I believe all LT4 intakes were painted red originally.

Re: LT1 or LT4 VIN Numbers

if you dont know if the origional owner did the lt4 conversion, my best advice is call the homo up and ask him and then if he says yes have him provide you with a receipt so you can be sure, dont deal witht he he says she says bull ****
