Catalytic converter

Does anybody know for certain if a factory GM 1995 Z28 catalytic converter with head pipe is the same as a 1994 catalytic converter. They seem to have different part numbers. Trying to find a replacement GM catalytic converter but only can find one for a 1995. Thanks!

Re: Catalytic converter

The GM parts book has 93-95s with single converter the same part number (export is a different number).

Re: Catalytic converter

If the 95 is a CA emissions model (RPO "YF5"), and it has an A4 transmission, it will be dual cats, similar to the 96/97 49-state dual-cat system. The 94 CA emissions A4 did not have dual cats.

Re: Catalytic converter

Thank you both for the fast reply! Can you tell me what the part number is? Are there any other options that I should look at. I have a 94 with single cayalyst. Trying to locate a new oem catalytic converter. Thanks again!

Re: Catalytic converter

Manual or auto trans?

I bought my 94 Formula in CA, and the 1994 M6's were all 50-state certified, no CA emissions add-on.

Can't you use an aftermarket cat, as long as it is CARB certified for your year/engine/trans car?

The GM part is discontinued. You'll have to go aftermarket.

Re: Catalytic converter

Might stop by R@G brake and wheel on creekside.See Rick the owner. He knows these cars real good.He also owns the exhaust shop next door. His dad had a F-body.He is behind the post office with all the car repair places there. His prices are fair and he is always dead on with any repair. Also the dent removal place down a couple of doors is a God send.Hope this helps.Tell him Jim sent you with the red camaro z28(furniture salesman at Simply discount).

Re: Catalytic converter

There are no after-cat O2 sensors on a 94. The PCM has no way to monitor cat activity.

Re: Catalytic converter

Thank you everyone for all the answers and suggestions! I have had to replace the aftermarket catalytic converter every couple of years and was hoping to find a new oe catalyst. Got a new Walker cat and passed smog test today. Thanks again.
