TH400 and a Gear Vendor.

Has anyone used this combo in there 4th gen? Was just curious if anyone has tried it out and how its working for them. I really want a transbrake setup for the car, but dont want to lose my OD gear. Any thoughts?

thanks,
Mike

Works great. With street tries, and 4.10 gears, I was turning almost 4K rpm at 70mph. The GV reduced it to a little over 3K rpm. And at the track, with 28" tires, it will snap your neck when it shifts..... I bought it used from a friend that was running it on a 3,980# 30th SS convert, with 950HP and pulling mid-9's at 150mph, using the GV as a 4th gear. It does add some bulk though... I think close to 50#. My buddy only removed it to get the weight of his car down to something more reasonable....

There are a number of guys with 90 454SS trucks that have a GV unit behind their TH400 trannies. They love them from reports I have heard.

I have a 90 454SS truck and I just had my TH400 rebuilt recently and plan to get a GV unit in the future.

They work great. A friend with a 4th gen Firebird and a Vortech has that combo and loves it. I'd have one, but it wasn't in the budget this year. Anyway, with my 3.42's the 1:1 top gear may be tolerable, though I doubt it.

I found that my 3.50 gear and 28" tire is tolerable on the interstate, I just run in the slow lane @ 70mph.

The GV only comes in 0.78:1. That makes a set of 4.10's like a set of 3.20's.
