A4 guys...quick question..how do you shift outa parK?

Ok when you start the car, and apply the brake to switch from park to drive(or reverse)...do you let off the brake RIGHT after you get to drive or reverse...before it engages..so the car begins to move(lurch forward), you are already off the brake? This is what I do, cause i feel like it puts less wear on the brakes and tranny. Does it matter?
Sorry if this is confusing..its hard for me to explain..I guess you know what im saying though right?

Thats basically how I do it, come to a stop, shift into gear and take foot off brake before it engages, I dont think it'll make a big difference, but ever little bit helps I guess.

the converter has fluid slip designed to not break or wear anything

yea I know how a convertor works...I was pretty sure it didnt do any extra wear and tear since it just spins freely in fluid..just wondering if it did any damage to let off before the car lurches forward..i guess it doesnt matter, whichever you prefer right?

in some cases, if you go from reverse to drive like while moving in reverse, you ring and pinion crush sleeve will crush more than its supposed to and will cause slippage. the person who owned my camaro before me apparently didnt know that, now i need a to go in and tighten everything.

btw. i make sure the trans is in gear and ready for motion before i remove the brake, it just feels like there is less wear on the rear end and d/s

Explain please.

So how would it crush more. Do you know how much force it takes to crush the crush sleeve? To crush the crush sleeve you would have to hold the yoke in place and turn the pinion nut. There is no force being applied to the pinion nut at all just the yoke.

Sounds like I'm a minority on this topic. Say I'm in a parking spot at the store.

Start the car
Apply Brake
Once engaged, I back out
Stop
Shift to drive
Once engaged, I release brake and proceed.

My thought behind this is that if you shift to drive while the car is still rolling back, the gears will be subjected to more of a shock. They teeth of pinion gear will be pressing against one side of the ring gear teeth, then snap back to the other side. I like the pause in between.
