Say, I've noticed a few guys here from the lower mainland. Who here is from BC?

I'm in Surrey. I have a 1977 Z/28 with a big-inch small block almost ready to put togther for the Mission street legal drags and for some fun summertime street action. :D Also have a 1989 GTA L98 350 for the daily driver.

I have an '81 Camaro that has been completely re-done from the ground up. The list of mods is pretty long and I'd probably forget half the stuff I've done. I have a whole other list of things 'to-do'.

I'm currently in Coquitlam.

GrantC sounds like a nice car. You should bring it out to play sometime if its running.

Hey guys - cool cars. :D

Erik - nice Z you have there. I noticed you too have had issues with Mopac. their best guy imo was Troy, and once he moved to the back office I stopped buying stuff from them.

In fact I haven't bought anything there since Best Buy Performance in Surrey opened up just over 1 1/2 years ago. *Great* people there. I bought all my stuff there for my Z/28 project and have more yet to purchase. Cheapest prices around and Brian (the owner) is *super* to deal with. They also have a store on Kingsway, and recently opened a store in Edmonton, with one in Calgary on the way soon. :) It is fantastic that we now have a local performance shop that cares about its customers and doesn't treat you like a walking wallet the way Mopac does.

Can't wait for Mission to open up. The street legals should be a real blast. Charles, are you planning to make it to the track sometime to see what your camaro will run? Seems to work pretty good to me.

Yup. Best Buy is my favourite place for performance parts, though I do make an occasional stop at Lordco.

Oh yeah I'm gonna have to "drag" my car out to Mission at least once this summer. I need to put in my hurst shifter, tach and body mount bushings. Basically that's the work for this year. Oh yeah fan shroud too. Be nice to try a gathering of the 2nd gens this summer! I totally agree about not buying from Mopac based on the poor customer service and the "sure it fits" attitude.

Not yet, but they do have a domain name reg'd. Brian (best Buy owner) has been really busy opening new stores in Alberta. They do run ads weekly in the Buy & Sell, so you can check that out for sales, but your best bet is to call the guys down at the closes Best Buy location. Friendly people and great service.

:)

Ya best buy seems pretty good but there have been a few things they were waaay too expensive. IE a moroso oilpan their costs was more than I could buy it for elsewhere. However they were $60 less for a clutch. I dont switch stores for a buck or two, but $60-100 is enough to do it. Best buy gets my first call though.

I think the best bet is get as many 2nd gens out to the local camaro meetings/cruises as possible. But you plan it, Ill be there. I know a few guys are still either working on their cars for a while yet and some are still hiding in their winter homes so plan it for summer. In the mean time Id suggest telling every 2nd gen owner you see about this board as well as nastyz28.com

Of course "rays" are great. They have a bowtie on them. I think the scene at the Java Hut in Langley is going to be very big this coming season. It will be good to see a # of second gen cars there.

Hey cheers SleeperZ. Hangin here and over at GMforums. You need to take that Vette out to Langley this summer! Drop me a line anytime. It's good to see the interest alive in carb inducted chevys LMAO! This particular summer, here in the lower mainland of B.C. I did notice more 2nd Gen Camaros than in recent years. Possibly this car is generating greater interest insofar as availability is concerned and horsepower to $$ ratio! You can't beat the style when you look down the hood of a 2nd gen car now matter what year you choose. I respect all generations and have a fondness for the low production 5.7B4C RS of the 3rd gen. Too bad during the 4th gen run of production that the Camaro bit the dust. Everyone has a personal favorite of course. I like the clean style of early 2nd gen Z28s and all the sport coupes. But a nice, original, black with silver/charcoal stripe accent 80-81 Z-28 with aluminum wheel package really turns heads. Seldom do you see 74 and later Camaros in restored or restified condition although they are gaining in popularity. I also like the 77 Z-28 with silver paint scheme and orange/red stripes. Also remember seeing a GM car lot (in Winnipeg) full of 74's in white with the big, blocky Z-28 decal on the hoods. Gas crunch kept them sitting on the lot forever! I wonder what it will be like for someone to "restify" a microsoft motor car in 15+ years? Electronics could cost a fortune.

...it's good to see your doing well Charles...I will in fact take you out on a cruise in the Vette...bring a diaper...454's tend to make people shat their pants;)

I also like the 77 Z-28 with silver paint scheme and orange/red stripes.

Thanks Charles! :D I too look forward to the big musclecar cruise-ins that seem to happen every night down at Java Hut. Its cool that its all domestic musclecar iron. What a neat place; right on a main drag, huge parking lots all around, and of course the Java Hut for a handy refreshement whilst walking down the rows of old Mopars and GM's.

Look forward to seeing all the guys on the 2nd gen forum here down at the Java Hut in the coming weeks. :)

So - how are you local guys doing for track times so far this year?

I managed a best of 12.15 @ 110.52 with a 1.68 60' on drag radials. Last night I only got 3 runs in at the street legal drags, but no better times to report. I ran with 3/4 tank of fuel instead of my usual 1/4 tank, and for some reason, even though I ground more weight off my governor weights, the trans was upshifting at less RPM than it was before when left in drive - 4400 RPM vs. 4900 RPM. Strange. I tried shifting manually also, but my times were still mired in the low-mid 12's. Going to try to get into the 11's at one of the next SL nights.

Erik - you need some gears man! :D

Dave

Erik
09-27-2003, 07:23 PM
Yeah, gears (4.11's), stall (3000?), lose the front sway bar.... Lots of stuff to do. This thing should be able to run mid to low 12's considering my trap speeds. Fortunatly there's a whole lot of winter coming up, during which I'll not be blowing all my spare cash on gas/drag racing :D

Dirt Reynolds
09-28-2003, 03:07 AM
For your combo, I would look at 4.10's and a 3500 10" converter. You have lots of power higher up in the RPM range as compared to a more torque-biased engine like what I run, so you need to tap into your power curve sooner with more gear and converter. You may also want to consider going with a 750 3310 Holley carb, or 750 double-pumper over that Edelbrock carb you have there.

;)

Dave

Dirt Reynolds
09-28-2003, 03:08 AM
I also agree, lose the front swaybar. Drag shocks up front won't do much with the swaybar in place.
