115 Mph Shutdown

DOES ANY ONE KNOW HOW I CAN CHANGE THE GOVENER ON MY 92 OR GET RID OF IT ALL TO GETHER?????????????:( :( :(

You can change the speed limiter with a custom prom or you can rig a toggle switch on the wire that provides the signal from the speed sensor. I don't recommend the toggle switch method, it shuts off the speedo and speed reading in the computer and may have some adverse affects that I don't know about.

I did not know that RS's went 115 MPH. Learn something new every day.:eek:

I got 130mph out of mine.

Now since you got 130 MPH out of that TBI RS it make some sense. Is that why you have a 4th Gen LT1 car in your signature on a 3rd Gen Board. Those TBI's don't last long at those speeds.

I bounced my TBI305 off the 115 limiter a few times driving from Orlando to Birmingham (used to do that twice a month) when it was bone stock. Of course, I blew a head gasket after about 8 months.....but that's totally unrelated. :D It came in handy as a real good excuse to build a 355. ;)

When I bought a new memcal for my MAP conversion I bout a 1992 TPI 305 Memcal and it also had a speed limiter set at 115mph.

So not only the TBI cars got speed limiters.

For anyones info GM put a speed limiter on any car that did NOT COME STOCK with speed rated tires(V or Z).

Find someone that will burn a chip for you, it'll only take ~2 mins to get rid of that speed limiter. $5-10 for chip + 2 min time at $$/hr = 12 pack of beer. I'll do it if you find a blank chip.

Now mine does 115 in the 1/4;) I thought that was what the post was about. Anyway, that is why I am in the process of findind an affordable front brake kit.

**** I've spun my 305 tbi to 6500 rpm with no worries :) It did acertain how bad I need gears though!

All nice numbers (in your dreams) for STOCK 305 TBI's with the weak horsepower & torque they put out. So quit Dreaming you have 350 power numbers.:rolleyes: :rolleyes:

Aye, I went 115 on serveral occasions with the stock RS. It pulls just a little more now :)

87DJP2001 What exactly are trying to say, that a stock TBI car can't hit its speed limiter? Or are you just bashing TBI cars in general?

My 305 TBI with a few bolt-ons (stock longblock and induction) put down 271 rwtq @2800 rpm, I would say that's pretty close to your 296 rwtq.

Let it be guys he started something he can't finish. I think he just wants to bag the TBI and also that you have a 305 engine.

He has the big 350 so all the 305's are **** in his eyes.

You know it is funny hearing guys like this they think they have the best engine blah blah. But they don't realise that a guy with a 383 can hang crap on him. Then a 400 guy comes along and hangs crap on the 383. The a 454 guy can come along and bag everyone from 305 to 454. Then someone can get a 520 and hang **** on everyone else.

Then you can just about shove that 350 up your butt and shut your mouth. Always a bigger fish in the sea but some guys with 350's just don't see it and bag the 305 all the time.

The 305 is not a bad engine at all. What is the difference in HP? 30-40hp big deal.

The guy that started this is a buddy of mine and doesn't come on here much, so if you can burn him a chip email him.

As far as hitting 115 in a 305tbi... I don't see why not :confused: I have a 94 Lumina Euro with a 3.1 that hits 115 easily and would keep pulling if it weren't for the speed limiter.

I think he just thinks that his car is so much better than a TBI, I drive a car that would beat his but, I would still take my MINT 1991 Formula 5-Speed w/42,000 miles over what I have now.

BTW I got that rear from Hawk's and LOVE IT!!! 3.70 posi/disc is a hell of an upgrade from a 2.73 pegleg. I stuck it in last Friday and I swear my off-the-line acceleration doubled.

Cool, glad you were able to get a much nicer geared rear end.
I should be able to get my pig back on the road soon. Getting a lot of parts off my friends car as well as off his lt1 motor that he ordered.

Sounds like fun to me....I had a bit of a problem with mine today. Couldn't figure out why the hell it wouldn't start...ended up taking the cap off the distributor thinking the module had to be bad and when I did the rotor button fell out!! Damn thing had broken into 3 pieces...had to buy a whole cap and rotor to get one because nobody carries just the button. PITA.....

Advance Auto parts up here sells just the rotor. I have one sitting in my garage from my days of the carb.

Yeah but does the rotor come with the little spring-loaded carbon button? If it was one or the other I would expect it to come with the cap since that's where it's mounted.

Oh well, doesn't matter. I fixed it already and she runs like a raped ape with these gears. :)
