98 Camaro 3.8 to LT1 swap.

I have a 98 3.8 5spd Manual Camaro. I purchased a used 95 LT1 with a sixspd trans with a centerforce clutch. The LT1 is equiped with the six speed trans wireing harness, ECM, and radiator if necc, K-member, manifolds, and CAT. I've rode in the car that the engine is coming from and It seems to run and ride good. It was supposedly rebuilt less than a year ago buy a chevy dealer with new rods, lifters, rocker arms, and a LT1 hotcam or LS2 hotcam I don't remember which or what they said. They also said they can swap it with no modifications to my 3.8. Is that true? what do I need to look out for? The rear ends are suppose to be the same size but my 3.8 is geared higher. Will my factory suspension handle the LT1? I have a used set of front shocks/struts that came off of a 2001 Camaro SS with 53K miles on them. Should I swap struts while it is out? I have to use my factory rack and pinion would the angles of the pinion match? I also have to use my factory fuel pump. Will It create enough fuel pressure? What else do I need to watch out for and what else would I need? The shop I purchased the engine from says they can do it with no problems and my 3.8 has everything it needs to accomodate the LT1 and Trans. Is that true? I'm also concerned that my gauge cluster and body controle module might not be compatible with the '95 LT1. Should I worry? Any help or advice would be appriciated.

Thanks,

Josh Pepper

I wished I could help more, but here is what I do know....

You will need a LT1 K-member and LT1 front springs. You may need to swap your gauge cluster for a 150 MPH unit. A 1997 Z28 has the same interior as your car, so it would be best if you can get your donor parts from a car of that year.

I think it is a doable project, but there will be some work and money involved.

I have seen a couple of web pages on this board from people who have done it...I will try to find the links.

.....do a search for "V6 to V8 swap" in the LT1 section of this board.

They couldn't have said the LT1 engine has an "LS2 hotcam", because the cams are not interchangeable. They are two completely different engines.

Wouldn't you want to put an Ls1 in it instead of an Lt1????? I would cuz that's just me. But it's not about me it's about you. You'll need new pedal or at leas a clutch pedal. I don't think that a 3.8 fuel pump will be big enough. Springs and stuff would be a good idea while the motor is out. As ACE said go to the v6 to v8 swap sticky youll have a lot more luck there. You'll see me on there too cuz I was looking at putting an LT1 into my 95 but scratched that idea.

Good luck.
