A4 & single cat. Torque Converter question?

Do i have to remove any of the exhaust on my 94? I have mid Pacesetters. I saw someone had to remove the Y pipe but they had dual cats. If you did change it out, would you do it again and was it worth the hassel? What kind of hp difference?

Are you talking about changing to a bigger torque converter? You do have to drop the exhaust a little to take the trans out.

Are you asking about the y-pipe, or the converter, I am a little confused. The higher stall converter won't provide any power gains. Adding a different, better flowing y-pipe might though.

I guess a don't know the reason for a higher stall converter. What does it do and why do people relace the stock one? The Y pipe with the headers is a good flowing one compared to stock.

People change to bigger stall converters for speed/time reasons. Some TC's will have a torque multiplier that helps. The higher the stall speed, the higher the RPMs will be when the car starts to move, allowing the car to be around the peak (or just below) horsepower. This makes the car accelerate faster on take off due to more power. As for driveability and gas milage is concerned it will not save you any, and will most likely hurt it unless it has lock up (like the factory one).
