Drag wheels for a third gen, what offset?

Hey guys.

Am wondering what offset wheels I need for my third gen to run slicks/skinnies.

I am looking at 15" wheels.

I am thinking 28" tall and not too fussy on how wide. I just want something that will fit with zero issues and be a light combo.

I do have a 4th gen as well, I would REALLY like to be able to use the slicks/skinnies on both cars, and in the very least the skinnies for sure. I can have a dedicated set of rear wheels/tires for each car if needed.

Anyone have any clue what offsets might work for me. I tried searching but can't find any concrete info.

Also any recomm. on wheels? I am assuming weld drag lites?

Thanks!

Are you looking at 8" wide or 10" wide wheels? Width will determine the required offset/backspace.

The info on the Skulte website indicates the 3rd Gen rear wheels are 16x8 with a 16mm offset, and 5" backspace.

Well I was thinking more along the lines of 8" because with an 8" there is a chance of fitting those rims on my '95 as well. I have in the past ran my thrid gen 16x8" wheels with ET Streets on a 94 car and they worked fine. A 10" wheel would be better, but I highly doubt it would be easy to make fit, unless the 2" would go towards the brake more so then then outside. Even with the stock 16x8s they rode the fender line pretty close, and that was with 26" tires. With 28s I can almost guarantee it to hit on a 4th gen. But, like i said, might just have to have 2 dedicated sets. However for the front i'm hoping 1 set will do.

I run 15x10's 7.5" BS and 28's on my 4th Gen. The issues with 28.0" QTP's were minimal. 28.1" M/T ET Drags were much more of a problem, requiring some cutting of the bumper cover.

From the dimensions listed on the Skulte site, it looks like you would want a 15x8" 4.5" or 5.0" BS for the 3rd Gen. Put that wheel on a 4th Gen and the 4.5" wheel/tire would be about 1" outside the fender line, or the 5.0" about 1/2" outside.

The fronts may also be an issue, since the 4th Gen uses a 55mm offset on the stock 16x8" wheel, and the 3rd Gen stock wheel is 16x8 with a 0mm offset. That's a full 2+" difference. For that case, you could select the wheel based on the 4th Gen, and add a 2" adapter for the 3rd Gen.
