Well.. i still have yet to install my front damper.. i called ATI and they told me the correct clearance is "ten thousands" then he says .001. Which is it?

I would like to know with the instructions, what is the clearance for a press fit?

Thanks

I do not have a direction sheet presently, but I believe the following to be correct.

It is .001 press fit, not clearance for steel dampers.

My Snout measures 1.247" (callies racemaster) and the ati bb hub measures 1.242"

Can i just heat up the hub and install it and let it cool?

take the time to hone the hub to the correct fit. despite it seeming too tight to me, i forced an ATI superdamper onto the callies racemaster crank on my last engine because when i asked about it, thats what the guy who machined my shortblock said he always does. when it came time to try to get it off, all i managed to do was break 3 different hub removers and several grade 8 bolts trying to pull it back off and had no luck

Off topic...
On the ATI superdampre there are either 5 or 6 torx bits on the front of it. One hole is marked "alignment hole" or something to that effect. Isnt that suppossed to have a torx screw in it too? I dont remember when mine went together, but now there isnt anything in there.

it should have 3 flat face bolts, and 6 countersunk bolts in it

I talked to callies and they told me i should have around .003 clearance.... its a bit odd that you have that much clearance as you have that with pistons and they are not supposed to be pressed fit.. I will try and hone it to the 1.249" if at all possible which i am not sure if it could be done or not.... Lets hope and see.

Its one of the countersunk ones. Guess I will call ATI and get a new one, and install with a little locktite this time

Highlander..... re-read my first post.
The confirmed press fit should be .0009" to .0012".

If you hone to 1.249, you will have .002 clearance & a junk hub. It should be 1.246" to have a .001" press fit on your 1.247 crank.

THANKS man.... i thought he meant the other way around.. THANK YOU!!! i knew something was not right....... having .002 overbore is like the pistons... they are not press fit.. thanks thanks thanks... getting that done.

Sounds like what he said (or should have said) is you need a 10/10-thousandths (0.0010) interference fit.
