Street Twin slave cylinder headache

Hello Folks,

I have the older style Mcleod Street Twin that rather than using the adjustable master cylinder uses a different plunger and cylinder in the slave cylinder body. I am having a problem with the cylinder snap ring retaining the inner sylinder and plunger. The snap ring seems incapable of holding the cylinder inside the body of the unit. The plunger seems to stick a bit when the pedal is first depressed, then suddenly it releases and the whole cylinder pops out of the body. Consequence of this is that I have to disassemble and reassemble the whole thing, and then it happens again. I thought after the last bench test that I had it licked, but as soon as I installed everything, it happened again.

Does anyone have any experience with this problem? Mcleod's tech dept is closed until after the new year, so I'd rather have it squared away before then. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks!

McLeod no longer supports the older style; I just bought the adjustable master cylinder...$300!

Re: Street Twin slave cylinder headache

I bought a used Street Twin with the sleeved slave cylinder, and had no problems with it. I sold it again after a couple years, and the 3rd owner never had any problems to my knowledge.
