Purpose built Spec racecar racing

Any of you run purpose built spec cars?

I'm saving money and evalutating how much time I could dedicate away from my job to get into W2W roadracing. Not even sure if I want to run SCCA or NASA...

Anyways, the more I read about different series and such, the more appealing a purpose built spec racecar series is sounding. Their easier to maintain, and aren't that expensive..

The two series I was looking at are


SCCA Spec Racer Ford (http://www.scca-enterprises.com/)

NSA Spec Renault (http://www.spec-racer.com/)
(one uses the only Renault engine, the other a Ford)

SCCA's are more expensive, but they seem to have the whole package nailed down (basically a service rep to guide you thru everything you need)

or

American Stock Car (http://www.ascracing.com/)
but seems a bit too expensive to jump right in.. espeically since i know nothing.

They are both Pro series... so... you need to have a background in racing. I would recommend doing open road racing, track day events sanctioned by organizations, etc. etc. to get the experience and the background you need to compete in the Pro series.

about the most affordable W2W series would be the SpecMiata.

Ummmm, open wheel is pretty dangerous.

how about a Legend's car? they run $10k and are quick, and not so expensive to maintain due to motorcycle engine and light weight. check classing in the groups you plan to run.

spec miata seems to be way too competitive, at least around here, anyway, if you ask me. but they are cheap to run, other than bodywork, even if expensive to buy/build. my formula was cheaper to build than a spec miata would be, but tires and brakes will cost me more.

i'm too cheapo to be real competitive, i'm afraid, in the long term, in the modified class here. next year will tell...
