t-56 question

i have the t-56 6-spd in my 97 t/a. i know i will have to get it rebuilt in the near future, but i have heard and was wondering if anyone knew anything more about this.

i know the vipers have the t-56 also. i was wondering what is different internally? i have heard that there are parts in the vipers that are stronger than what is in mine. does anyone know anything more?

if anyone does any information would be helpful. part numbers, parts, etc..........

i plan on a motor upgrade soon, and as long as i am going through the motor i should beef up the trans in thats an option.

The best strength improvement for the GM T56 is to switch to a Viper mainshaft. It's larger in diameter and has more splines. You'll need to have your driveshaft redone with a Chrysler slip yoke also. This fixes the biggest weak link in the GM T56. All the other upgrades - Steel shift forks- different syncros, etc dont really improve the ability of a T56 to withstand repeated hard launches on slicks. D&D performance can redo your T56 with all of the upgrades.

do you have the contact info for D&D performance? i take it you have already do this mod.? i think it would be smart for me to just go ahead and upgrade when i get it rebuilt anyways. the motor i am going to build i expect to hit mid 600hp under the juice, so i think i should try to eliminate any weak areas ahead of time. the rear end will definatly be going. thanks for the info.

I did not have D&D do mine. I did mine myself before D&D offered this upgrade. I purchase all of my T56 parts through D&D.They're a top notch company. If you're going to run juice and launch hard on sticky tires, this upgrade is definately for you. Get steel shift forks while you're at it. The stock aluminum ones can get bent if you really bang gears hard. I've never bent a stock one but many others have.
