Do I NEED a transmission jack to remove my 4L60E?warwickbass 05-18-2004, 09:15 PM Or what? camarokid24 05-18-2004, 11:48 PM From what I understand you can use a good floor jack and a peice of wide piece of wood. you just have to be careful to get it in the right spot to balance it. I would get a friend to help stablize it as you lower it to make sure it doesnt fall :) I have not yet removed mine, but I am about to in a couple months for a rebuild. maybe some one elese could chime in. should work though. good luck man :) jkipp84 05-19-2004, 04:17 AM I used a piece of wood and the regular jack when I did my converter swap. That sucked pretty bad.. I won't be doing that again. I've seen it mentioned on here that places like Autozone rent them out, but when I went and asked they gave me the same blank look they always do when you ask them about anything besides tire shine or chrome valve stem caps. warwickbass 05-19-2004, 09:51 AM Originally posted by jkipp84 I used a piece of wood and the regular jack when I did my converter swap. Haha, I know. Idiots they are. rncotton 05-19-2004, 04:19 PM A couple of guys in the club used ATV jacks when dropping their trannys. The swear that it worked better than the transmission jacks. Dave Feerst 05-19-2004, 04:30 PM The autozone near me had a ASE master certified mechanic there for awhile. he hurt his back after working at a dealership for several years. He impressed the hell out of me because he was the first ever autozone employee i didnt have to explain things to 12 times. warwickbass 05-19-2004, 05:07 PM Originally posted by Dave Feerst The autozone near me had a ASE master certified mechanic there for awhile. he hurt his back after working at a dealership for several years. Yeah, they really had a hard time understanding the OBDI/II issue with my '95 Z28..lol Loadre 05-19-2004, 07:18 PM You can use a floor jack and a large piece of wood, it's really not that bad. Make sure you have a buddy to help, though. Postion the head of the jack so that it sits toward the front of the pan, that's where the balance point is. "White Knight" 05-19-2004, 11:02 PM I plan on doing the regular jack and a piece of wood to do my converter install later. Yea those Autozone guys...........they are so funny. | ||
