Set up for NA or Spray..or compromise.

I may be adding the jug to the car. Right now I cross at 6700ish rpms at 125 mph..which should go up here shortly(hoping for mid to high 126 range). If I spray a mild shot..say 100 or 150..my mph should be in at least the low 130s. Right now with my setup I can run 4th out for about 129-130 there abouts at 7000 rpms. My delima is either I'm gonna be coasting across the line when I spray or I will have to spray 5th gear..which I don't want to do because its a pretty weak gear. Or I could step down the gear some..compromise with say..4.57s or there abouts and prolly run it out on the jug(135ish) but when I changed from 4.57s to 4.71s it picked up my et by about .3 because I was crossing the finish too low for max et on motor with the shorter gears.

I like to do most of my racing(thunder shootout , etc.) all NA. But Its not enjoyable to run the mustangs etc. running blowers, nitrous..or both. I still haven't been beat by one yet but I also don't want that to happen.

Just rambling..and venting..and thinking..whats everyones thoughts

Put the lower gears in if you are going to spray when you race. I can't see you going a full 3/10's slower with only a 4.71-->4.57 gear change but if it hurts your 60' then I guess it is possible. It wouldn't be a good thing to hit the rev limiter frequently on the spray, soft-touch or not, though a window switch would solve that problem. I think that extra time to change gears again will hurt you more than anything else and as far as ET, going to 5th takes a bit more time than a 1-2 or 3-4 shift as I'm sure you know. I think even w/ most aftermarket shifters, the gate between 3 and 5 is further apart than the 1 and 3 gate to prevent missed shifts to 5th gear so, it's just a hard gear to shift into quickly.

If the spray is just for fun from time to time leave the gears, but if you are going to race on the gas then I'd think about switching. My .02 anyway. BTW, when are you gonna hit that 10.9x run?

badass setup, go 4.3x and you could push 4th to what 140ish? the 4.3's should still make you get out of the hole damn fast, plus the taller gears will let you use more of the motor to power you ahead, plus a 150-200shot will give you a LOT more motor to push the tall gears.

turbo6..should be next time out. I'm waiting for my parts back from liberty. I had a high end studder that I'm fixing too to I can run it out to 7 grand. Last time out..racing on a borrowed t-56..so I was granny shifting and leaving soft, I went a 11.12 at 125.1 and was shifting at 6650-6700 because of that studder problem. My HP peak is at 6650 so that was killing my et.

I'm not planning on racing in a power adder class so that is whats giving me doubts about what gear to do. It will be for fun and the occasional grudge match. The gear change picked my finish line crossing rpm from 6000 to 6500...and I'm just gotten faster since then. It may not affect me as much now as my finish line rpms keep going up.

Just remember a really tight LSA cam isn't suited well for nitrous...
Just a thought.

You have a 9". Buy another center section w/ a lower gear ratio. Best of both worlds then.

Can you fit a taller tire? I would try to avoid shifting into 5th.

Joe, yea..that is an option. I have a locker with 4.57s already installed on it with bearings. I just need a case and I have a whole setup ready to go.

Rich...I runn a 28" tire now. To go to a 30 would take major modification to the body. I don't want to go there. yea...with these gears I've pretty much decided that I will just cut the nitrous off and coast through the traps.

Mike..I'm only going to hit a 100..maybe a 150 shot. I know this this gear setup there is no reason to go more than a 100 shot so that is where it will stay at for now. I'm only hoping to pick up .5 or so with a 100 shot since I'm shooting for putting my car in the 10.8 range at 126 on motor.
