I had one do a flyby the other day, he thought I was racing but I was just driving "normally". They are really cluless. At this point, 9 times out of 10, I refuse to waste gas or abuse the machinery on them. Sometimes I purge at them though, and then take off sedately :D

What is a J-body? Is there a lot of J-body ricers?? Most of the ricers I see are Hondas, Toyotas, Nissans, and once in a while a V6 Camaro or Mustang.

Seems to be one of the most common cars around here to get riced out. Of course, I live in GM land up here in Michigan.

J-body is the crapilier at least Honda's have the potential to be fast......J-bodies are about pathetic in the aftermarket world....90% rice mods and only 10% powermods available....hell even neons have more potential than a J-body
Nationwide the J-body is the most riced out car I would say....due to the fact the only thing you can really buy is a bodykit and ugly wheels, neon tubes and indiglo gauges :D
They really hate it when they get beat because they ant even say "wait till I get X"...there still slow and love to do fly-bys...especially the autos ;)

I have never seen a fast one or a riced out one. Must be because of where I live.

Kris93/95Z28 10-16-2003, 11:29 PM This story reminds me of a video I seen once. This is kinda what I remember since it has been a while since I seen it...
It was a Civic racing a Formula, and the Civic gets out a bit ahead of the Formula at first, and then the Formula gets traction and roars by, and after getting some distance lets out.
Next thing you see the two are at a light together. The Formula guy goes, "See I told ya when I got traction I'd beat ya". Then the Civic guy replies, something to the effect that, "You didn't beat sh!t, this is street racing..."
All I could do was lol... that is a pathetic mindset to have. If you lose give the other guy his props :D

Right. Stock Civics really have serious traction issues:rolleyes:. Ever lay 4+ seconds of rubber at 45 mph going into 2nd gear while slewing from side to side with a stock Civic? Didn't think so.

Youve never seen drive my civic in a a 200* hairpain at 75 mph have you? ;)
Okay tell you what....launch a 350whp FWD car and tell me when you find Mr. Traction......I'll be at the booth ready to hand your slip including your 2.6 60'
From a roll FWD are inherently more stable because the front end is pushed down by the wind..the faster you go the more weight ends up over the front wheels...whereas a RWD car experiences less weight over the rear wheels the faster they go and therefore become more unstable the faster they go
Another safety feature of FWD for drivers with itchy steering reflexes.....

Yep! And those cheaply lowered ricers with camber so horrible you can SEE the wheels tilted! How in the hell do they expect to get traction?
There is a big difference between the pros and the wanna-bes, domestic or import. It amazes me that people sink over $3000 into a killer sound system, paint, and bodywork, but have a $150 CAI for their engine.

Glad you could chime in with absoloutely nothing to say ....way to go
A rear wing can be used by ANY car....rear wings are mainly used for braking stability when entering turns and canceling out lift...all cars experience lift but with RWD it can dangerous because you lose traction over the drive wheels...reduces acceleration and increases the chance of going into the wall
The wing over the front end was probably done to imulate an MR2 built in 1996 that could run 0-180mph in 25-26 seconds....the ricer probably though it just looked cool
So rear wings can be used by all cars mmmK....now whether a 16 sec wonder needs a 3ft wing with little usable downforce is another subject

Remember the MR2 is a mid engined car....very little weight over the front wheels.....when doing 150+mph the car experiences front end lift....the wing was added for increasing weight and downforce over the steering wheels of the car...
What they should have done was design a better front splitter but the skiped that and added the wing...

Hello? What roll are we talking about, a roll from 120 miles an hour? It's actually just the opposite of what you said. I should know what creates lift.;) Unless the wind moving below the hood or under the car is moving faster then then the air moving over the hood and the windshield, you will never get more down force on the front of the car. What you said was backwards, it's just the opposite. The hood and windsheild act like a wing. It's not the angle that creates down force, it's the air moving faster under the wings vs over the wing that creates down force. Ask anyone who has ever driven a C4 over 130, the front end of the Vette will actually pick up.
The stock Civic was desigened from the begining to be an economy car!!! The Independent suspension is great but it is in no way a sports car!!! As an economy car I really doubt a stock car can do more then 120. A F-body on the other hand can do 160+ mph stock. In my backyard we have the Bonneville Salt Flats, the 4 cylinder record was held by a Civic that had a top speed of 187 (last week that record was smashed by the new Saturn Redline by 30 mph) the current speed record for an F-body is 350 MILES PER HOUR. Don't lecture an F-Body owner by saying that your Civic has safer/better aero dynamics then his car.
One way to know if a car has balls is to look at it's top speed, how much would you have to spend to get your car to do 160? You don't have the torque or the horsepower.

Funny you should mention planes moron....I am a certified Air Traffic Controller and passed the FAA exam more than 3 years ago...you wanna talk physics...be my guest...you wanna see what 7g's looks like from an F-15...I live 6 blocks from 2 mile military runway
I am pursuing an Airway science degree and grew up spending most of my time at a Helicopter school
So once again moron.........what happens if a RWD experiences front end lift? The front of the car pulls up......the faster you go the more lift.....the more lift...the higher the front end comes up....what happens if the front end catches a gust of wind as it accelerates faster.........the REAR wheels PUSH and the FRONT end of the car will FLIP.....
FWD cars PULL their weight and drive the FRONT wheels....if the front end comes off the ground due to lift the car can no longer accelerate as it will fight for traction or plain loose momentum due to drive wheels not contacting the ground....it cannot PUSH the car into a flip because its design is one of a PULL method
Can a FWD pull a wheel stand for 100-200ft? Why not? I swear youd think some of this **** was common sense

The land speed record isnt held by a RWD/FWD/AWD car anyway.....
The FWD is inherently safer for the reasons I have already mentioned..........the next time someone runs a simlilar powered FWD against a RWD with the same shape see which one is faster.....drivetrain losses alone have the RWD car being slower....but I digress...obvioulsy some like to speak before they have given this any thought
To be truly fast on the ground youd want to minimize your contact with it anway.....which is why if the wheels arent whats pushing you forward (or slowing you down) you will go faster......think of a F1 boat...it skims the water and is faster....more unstable...but faster than a V tunnel that has to cut through the water......its just plain physics
Bluntdogg 10-22-2003, 09:55 PM Originally posted by SergioEK9B18C5turbo

So with all that said... why is it that Ferraris, Lambos, Porsches, etc., cars made to run the highest top-speeds, are not FWD? Are the engineers of these cars morons as well? Surely they must have some reason for never choosing FWD. Heh I'd really like to hear how you spin this one. :p

a fwd with sh!t aerodynamic design will be less stable than a rwd with good aeros and vice-versa. it is all in the design. exotics (and f1 cars) are either awd or rwd because they both are superior designs to fwd as far as handling is concerned.

Exactly.....check the drag coefficients on the cars as well as power....
They could go faster but youll see the tranverse engine setup is the most efficient and teh most widely used setup in supercars.....Mid engine...tranverse layout
A FWD with a drag co of .25 with 660whp would be just as quick but who builds a FWD exotic? Nobody because your only going top speed for a fraction of the time your spending at lower speeds where overall handling and acceleration matter more....so why focus on top speed when your customer will spend 99.9% of his time going half as fast?
There is more to cars than top speed, top speed has very little drag....but at lower speeds wings, spoliers and splitters have to be bigger to maximize handling.....its a trade off.....top speed or better traction
Youll see it most in high speed racing like NASCAR, INDY, CART, F1 they argue over aero for days......what good is 200mph is you cant turn at the end of the straight? Everything is about balance
JJEXP 10-24-2003, 01:22 AM I like how the civic guy defends all of his claims by stating that the other guy is an idiot, or a moron, or whatever. Maybe facts would help his argument a little more than just attacking people for finding holes in his logic. highspeed 10-25-2003, 07:44 PM Boy do I get that all the time. I got a long drive to work every night and it seems at least once a night one comes up next to me and wants to race! I usually give it a rev then let them take off and sit back and watch them go!! Kinda funny, but I really don't don't like to race them for a numbr of reasons. 1. they don't know how to drive and 2. they don't understand the concept of upcomming traffic in their lane.
here is the latest ding dong I decided to race. So I am driving along and some silly looking glow in the dark Honda passes me up then all of a sudden he hits his brakes then taps them a few times. Now we are side by side and he really wants to go. So I give a ltlle rev and we are off. I am keeping him just under a car length behind me cause, like I said before"they don't know how to drive" We are in the hundreds breaking teens, and we start to come up to traffic. He is in the 4th or far right lane and I am in the 3rd and he is not slowing down for the car he is coming up on. I usually back off when I come up to alot of traffic, so I get over to the 2nd lane and back off so he can go around the car in his lane. You know what the dummy did! Instead of slowing down and moving to the left he sped up and tried to pass the car on the shoulder!!! Yes the shoulder. All of a sudden I heard plastic breaking and the sound of gravel. Of course he had to pull off the freeway cause he obviously broke something. I just drove buy him and laughed my a** off. That is why I don't race them. That was a dumb and irresponsible move. He could've wrecked or worst made contact with the car he was passing. I am mostly glad no one got hurt. Now my motto is "NO RICE BURNERS"

Air traffic controllers sure know a lot about physics, they sit on their A$$es all day while real pilots like me actually do the flying.
I thought you said that FWD drive cars were so great because wind pushes down on the front tires, if you now realize that is wrong I'm happy. Are you saying that FWD is better because the front tires lose traction at high speed and FWD's don't do well at cornering? Wow, that makes me really want to drive an econmy car now.
I love how you said that the rear wheel drive cars will flip over with a gust of wind, i don't think it makes a difference with FWD/RWD. If your car is starting to do a back flip I don't think you'll keep on pressing on the gas. Cars are not boats, cars don't skim over anything and yes a hydro plane still has a propeller at the rear of the boat just as any other boat does.
Your logic is way off about drive train loss. Other then the NSX, I can't think of any modern-day exotics that have a crankshaft that doesn't run perpendicular with the rear axle/drive shafts. A transaxle is just a differential and a transmission combined. Do you know how stupid a FWD exotic would look? A Ferrari V12 with a transaxle would have a hood that is three feet high! FWD cars are very limited to engine size because you can only fit so much under a hood. Engineers don't build mid-engined exotics just for the benefit of a transaxle, they just try and get all of the heavy stuff in the middle.
The Skyline is AWD because it needs rear traction, the WRX is a great little car because it needs RW traction too. The AWD Eclipse's perform much better then the FWD eclipses.
So what have we learned from Sergio's load of BS:
CIVIC's/FWD's suck because they are prone to understeer
CIVIC's/FWD's suck because they are limited to engine size
CIVIC's/FWD's suck because they are nose heavy
CIVIC's/FWD's suck because they lose traction at high speed
Sergio, there are many many reasons why automakers don't make fast FWD cars, it's just ridiculous. You should have bought an AWD Eclipse or something, your boosted little economy car still sucks!
:death:

Now that would be fun!! I might have to buy it just to do that. :metal:
