Issues with Mcleod Street Twin

I recently installed a McLeod street twin in my 396 stroked T/A and have nothing but praise for its gripping capabilities; no slip and pure grip. However, the car shakes kinda hard when its put into gear. Its not that I’m having problems engaging the gears, its just when I find the friction point and begin to accelerate, the car shakes pretty hard. Its not as apparent when I release the clutch at higher rpms, say 1800-2000 rpm, but there is rattle. This is not when I’m drag racing, just stop and go traffic, from stop sign to stop sign.

Could this be the “chatter” people have experience with the clutch or is it just something you have to put up with when you drive a twin disc car? Is there anything I can do to solve the hard vibrations when accelerating from a dead stop?

Oh yeah, another thing. Its not the flywheel since that was balanced at the machine shop.

Thanks for the help!

Since you only feel it at low rpm and not at high, that rules out the drive shaft being put on the wrong way (fliped since its balenced and if u put the yoke in other joint where it was, it can cause vibration (i marked mine when i took it off). I know its a dumb question, but what type of tranny mount do you have? The chatter ppl are usally talking about is mostly noice, and not the car shaking violently. It should have soime vibration, but barley any, and espeicaly not alot when it is at low rpm. Anyone else?

McLeod clutches are known somewhat for chattering. My single disc chattered when engaging first. I haven't noticed it with my street twin yet though. Course, cars been in the shop for 50+ days now too.

I bought my StreetTwin after it was broke in....... , and it is as smooth as the stock clutch , but you can tell a big difference in the force needed to push the clutch in

Once it's broken in it should be as smooth as stock. This can take over 1000 miles though. Mine chattered at first but not anymore.

thats cause of all that extra weight you have sitting on the flywheel and input shaft of the tranny now im not a fan of those things to be honest with ya!

I don't remember mine ever chattering. It definitely doesn't now, after about 10K miles.

I have the aluminum flywheel, which BTW, weighs (as a setup) less than the stock clutch/PP/flywheel.

People have weighed the entire setup compared to the stock setup, and the aluminum FW setup weights less as a total than the stock setup as a total. Thought I made that clear.

Anyway, to the poster, if you have a bad vibe (haha), it's probably an issue with install. Maybe one of the bolts not torqued down all the way?

Yeah...mine used to chatter in reverse too. It was probably worse then because you have to slip the clutch more.
