This happened at the opening night at a new track in SD. 1/8th mile.

I have only ever run wet systems and never had a car catch fire.
I have had kits backfire, and blow cai's and filters apart. Something tells me there was another issue involved with that car buring the way it did.
Dry kit's are fine,IF you spray SMALL shot's,or use DFI of some sort to ad fuel,to trust vacuum and stock injectors (which 97% of dry kit users do) is asking for a meltdown.

A loose fuel hose under the hood would certainly do it. Sounds like a faulty hose end, or it was damaged somehow. It would be nice to see a complete write-up of how the system was set up, in case there are any key mistakes made that folks could learn from. I doubt "never use a wet nitrous system" is a useful key learning...

I've talk to the owner about what happen to his car and this is what was pass on to me. He had a backfire which got the K&N filter on fire. He did everything right. Got out the car and pop the hood latch so that the crash crew to come over and investigate under the hood which they didn't. They just spary halon on the closed hood
so they didnt do nothing to control the fire. It was the track at fault for not being trained to use there equipment on opening night at the track.

Thanks for clarifing that Vinny. I know you use a similar setup and have had no problems (to the best of my knowledge) but I just don't ever want to take a chance and that's why I use the 5176 kit.

So would a fire extinguisher put that out?
How big of a shot was he running?
Isn't it unusual to have a Nitrous backfire going down the track?
The ones I have seen are usually at the starting line.
It's hard to believe the fuel line came off. I would think it was pretty hard to tell what happened from no more than was left.
Doesn't the window switch just kill the nitrous flow?

1-yes it will, but if used right.
2-150 shot.
3-It happen at the light but it rolled out the stage area on to the track.
4-no the fuel line didn't come off.

What kind of fire extinguisher woud you need and what would you do to use it right?
I cannot believe they let his car burn when they had a fire truck there. I don't think either one of our local tracks have firetrucks like that. They are small mini rescue vehicles.
I would like to know what his insurance company says but I can't imagine that they will pay for it.
The only thing good about that mess is he didn't get hurt.

) fire extinguisher could have stopped all of that?
