(dons flamesuit) The original Camaro was sometimes referred to as the "Chevy Mustang". So since the original versions were similar, it is natural that retro versions look somewhat alike.

Note that I don't think the cars look the same at all. However they look more similar to each other than any other two cars on the market.

So, "looks like a Mustang" is probably an inevitable opinion from people who aren't car fans.

but if you put one next to the other, you can identify that theyre both camaros.

I see where you are coming from. I still see the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th styling as way different from 1st and 5th. That's why I group 2nd 3rd and 4th together. The 1st and 5th gen don't have the big *** back glass and rocket-sled look. Fbodfather said that when he worked at a dealership in the 70s people wanted to take sledgehammers to the car they were so pissed with how it changed from 1st gen to 2nd gen! The change from 4th to 5th is the second biggest design risk they have taken.

From 2nd gen onward the Fbody took the road not taken and it was way different from what it was from 67 to 69. Now it's swinging back to rejoin the 1st gen path with only subtle influences from 2nd-4th.

Personally I call 1st and 5th gen styling "Camaro" styling and 2nd, 3rd, and 4th gen styling is "Firebird" styling if that makes any sense.

My only problem with the Camaro is the interior. I think they did an excellent job with the exterior.

It's too bad they felt that way. I think the early 2nd gens are the best looking of all the gens. I'm prob in the minority on that one.

I wanted a Camaro so bad when I was younger, I bought the first one that came along. Yet later when I saw the candy apple red '73 Camaro that my brother and his friends had fixed up, and he was getting ready to sell so that he could buy a new pickup, I knew I had to have it. I loved that car. Too bad I wrecked it once in the front end, and the motor blew on me not long after. Anyway, I agree with you on that. Even though the '73 was not the best of them, it was one of my favorite Camaros.

WTF, of course they look the same. They have 2 doors, and 4 wheels, and lets not forget what makes all cars look the same, they're both the same color!!! Yeah right, if you can't tell those 2 apart you don't belong on a enthusiest message board. Go compare your Camry to the Accord. Camaro: Beautiful Muscular Styling, shows heritage but is modern, world class performance. Mustang: Totally retro, but poorly done, slab sides, lousy powerplants other than the GT500, outdated technology. Hands down, Camaro will be raising the Lombardi Trophey after this battle!

Not to mention that they have headlights, taillights, license plate brackets, back up lights, an engine and exhaust systems.

While essentailly similar in concept (4 seat sports coupes) they are polar oposites in styling (in my opinion).

There is no way inthe world I would ever confuse the Camaro with a Mustang, Challenger or other 2 door sport coupe, unless it was a cheap copy from one of the many Chinese manufacturers.

At which point, it would be relatively easy to spot because of the lower quality workmanship and engineering.

I think that the 2010 Camaro and the 2009 Challenger actually share more in common as far as body style cues such as the teardrop rear quarter window and the rear quarter fender flare, but that doesn't mean that I could ever mistake them for eachother. At least not in my opinion, and that's what we are talking about here anyway, everyones opinions. I'm not saying someone without the years and years of owning both a 67 Camaro and 67 Mustang like I have had couldn't tell them apart, but I feel that they may be lazy and just don't want to take the time to differenciate between pony cars.

Sure, they both are coupes with a long hood and short rear deck, but i can always tell a Camaro from a Mustang...ALWAYS. Especially from the profile, where the Mustang is straight, the Camaro has curves. The grills are different angles too, the Mustang has a worried puppy dog look while the Camaro has wolf-like grin.

Yeah, I dont know where this guy is coming from...there are simularities, but if you cant tell the difference in half a second, then I am sorry but you shouldnt call yourself an enthusiast. The attitude of the two cars are completely different, and yes, it IS apparent at a first glance.

God I know this is an old thread, I felt that as a muscle car junkie had to comment. Though I will admit my first car was a 66 stang, my first true love was a 67 camaro. Still I glance at mustangs from time to time I really couldn't see my self settleing down with one. After saving the pics to my desktop carefully comparing the two....BRO, apples & oranges....
