wheel stud length?
wheel stud length?
I just put on my new polished Z06 rims today. They look good
. I got to the very last wheel and it still had the original factory lock nut on it. Of course this is the last stud, I slip the wrench on and it didn't look quite right so I meesed with it a bit and figured it didn't get any better. Well, I hit the impact and it rounded the lug almost completely. There was a bit left and I realized I was close but not right on. Anyhow, long story short I got it off, barely
I went to put the front wheels on and they worked perfect. I put the back on and it seems that lugs are only grabbing 3 or 4 threads
It looks like the front are 3/8 inch longer than the rear. My guess is someone replaced them but WTF? I don't get it. Why would you put on a shorter stud? Has anyone else had this problem?. I would assume the studs would be the same, front to back. I'll be taking it in , when the motor is finally in, to get longer studs installed in the back. Anyone got any ideas?

Re: wheel stud length?
Is it possible the openings in the rear of the new wheels are too small to fit over the oversize rear hubs on your 94? That is generally a problem with factory wheels from 1998 and newer. They will not fit correctly on the 93-to mid-97 cars because the rear hub is larger than the front hub on those years. The inside diameter of the hole in the wheel needs to be sanded to enlarge it. You didn't mention "spacers", so I assume that isn't the cause of the problems.

Its sorta hard to determine how "new" the back is. I have had the car for about 6 years so its possible the original owner may have replaced them.
I noticed something was different when I went to break them free with the impact. What little I was doing to the front to break them free would completely spin them off the back.
The wheels are aftermarket and ARE NOT o.e. GM wheels. I will go back and double check them and see if I can't find more. Thanks for the reply

Re: wheel stud length?
Been awhile and thought I would follow up on this. The wheel stud length is 34mm and it is stock so my short studs are the correct length. I checked at the dealer. We instead looked up a Z06 vette and used 10 lugs from it. They are approx. 3/8 of an inch longer. I now have a fair amount of thread grabbing instead of 3 threads.
EDIT* I said lugs in the above. I meant studs. The splines and thread pitch were the same as stock.
