Wheel Rubbing Question
Wheel Rubbing Question
I lowered my car two years ago and this past summer I bought some 17" Z06 rims and I noticed that when I turn sharp or kick out the *** end I hear a lot of rubbing coming from the wheel well. Is there anything I can do to stop the rims from making so much noise? I'm afraid with the way I drive and all that rubbing I'm going to cause some damage sometime in the future to either my car or my tires.
What is the offset on the wheels? Factory offset on the C5 - Z06 17x9.5 is 54mm. That should not produce any rubbing at all. What size tires do they have on them? Does it rub on one side or both? On the fender lip or on the inner fender liner?
The offset on the wheels is 54mm. The front tires are 275s and the rears are 285s. I'm not sure if both sides are rubbing but I can't tell because I have no way of taking my rims off right now. And I'm guessing the rubbing is just on the inner fender liner from just the way it sounds.
I have the SS wheels also and have the same rubbing, but only on "fast" right hand turns from a stop. Leaving driveways, parking lots, etc. Only rubs on the rear left side fender for a split second, but I have the Eibach Pro kit on mine. I had it with 275's and now with 285's. I have not seen any damage to the fender or tires. Just a little annoying.
That's why I asked if it was rubbing on one side or both. An adjustable panhard rod will allow you to re-center the body over the rear axle. That will correct a tire that is rubbing on one side. But if its rubbing on both sides, in the same place, you can't "pull the wheels in".
You should be able to look at the inner fenders and the fender lips, and at the surfaces of the tires to see where its rubbing. Without doing that, no one can tell you what the fix is.
What are you using for sway bars? Excessive body roll on corners can make the rubbing problem show up.

Everything is stock except for the shocks/springs, which is probably my problem right there. But due to money constraints (college and my old man) I can't really fix things in a timely manner.
