Exclamation What new tires for 16" rims?...please help!

Hey all,

I'm looking to buy new tires for my 1987 camaro z28 Iroc...

It's currently running 245/50/16 on all fours (with wire showing through lol). I have two options that I must choose from.

A) Replace them with four more 245/50/16 Falken Ziex ZE-512 tires

or

B) Run 255/50/16 in the back and 235/55/16 in the front, all Yoko Avid H4S's.

I prefer B but I am wondering if these will be a direct fit onto the stock rims with no problems and if any other problems will arise with sizes different than stockt, (speedometer adjustments?)

Any input would be great.

Thanks,

Weez

the 255s will be fine, i had them on my car and i think i calculated the "difference" in the speedo being about 1mph

but i would highly suggest running the same tires all around, with the ability to rotate tires you can get MUCH more life out of your cars shoes

Hi,

Have to remember though that the 16" Iroc rims
backspacing are different front and rear and would
have to break down tires to rotate

Thanks for the replies.

As far as 255 all around I think that is a little to wide for the front, having the 225s will allow to cut the water to reduce hydroplaning in water, I have been told. And that is true, the spacing is different meaning I can't just switch around rims...

What'ya all think?

A 255 isn't going to cause hydroplaning... at least not a quality tire with a good tread design. There are huge numbers of people running 275's and 285's on the front (at least on the 4th Gens) with no wet driving problems. I've run 275's on all 4 corners and currently running 275's front/ 315's in the back, and haven't had a problem with wet driving.

OK so if i go 255's all the way around will they mount on the stock rims with no trouble? I am looking at the Falken tires, does anyone have any experience or comments on these tires? the reviews on Tiretrend.ca are great and they look like a good tire...

The wheel dimension table on the Skulte Performance site shows the 3rd Gen front wheels as 0mm offset and the rear wheels as 16mm offset, so you're looking at 5/8" difference.

Look into Yokohama AVS ES100s.. I wouldnt worry about 255's over 245's.. The difference is so marginal. I would keep all the tires the same so you can rotate them.. Staggering is only good when there is a purpose behind it.. Like drag racing and having front runners or road racing with their slightly thinner fronts..
