Upgrading to 17" SS Style Wheels.
Upgrading to 17" SS Style Wheels.
I got an 02 Z28 w/ OEM 16" chrome wheels & want to replace them w/ OEM 17" SS ZR-1 Style or OEM 17" 10 Spoke '02 SS wheels. Will I need spacers or any kind of modifications or will they fit w/ no problems? Thanks a bunch!
Re: Upgrading to 17" SS Style Wheels.
You should not need any modifications...Check out Ebay, and do a search for ZR1s or SS wheels there are plenty of sources out there. The companies will list the offsets and backspacing and tell you what vehicles they fit. Check the classifieds here, too...I had them on my car for years. I think that they are the best looking wheels out there...AFS wheels is big on Ebay and have good quality...they offer silver, black, a gun metal gray, polished, and chrome...

Re: Upgrading to 17" SS Style Wheels.
Much Thanks GUYS! Been looking on Ebay for about a week. Now if I could only decide what color...? Black, Chrome, Gunmetal, or Silver..? What would look good on this?

I like the Silver & Chrome ZR1's but thinking hard about Black ZR1's..?
I found some 16" Chrome ZR1's...http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...RK%3AMEWA%3AIT
I just put a brand new set of BFG's on these in the pic (less than 500 miles). I could just move the tires over & save myself the $ on 4 new tires..? Any suggestions on 16" vs. 17".?
BTW, these will be for sale once I get me some new ones. Unbelieveable shape! Have on 39K miles on them. Look Brand New!

I'm partial to 16s only because a 16" DR will hook better than a 17" at the track. It all depends onyour goals for the car...I agree that the polished or chrome will look great on black...I've got polished Bogarts on my black Formula and they look great...

I have a very nice set of the ZR1 style wheels in silver, and price is negotiable...
Regardless, I agree 100% about black wheels looking less than good on a black car...Dark car, brighter wheels...bright color car, OK w/dark wheels...JMO.

Re: Upgrading to 17" SS Style Wheels.
That is a nice looking example. I am partial to 10 spokes, (especially anniversary 10 spokes) but our cars can be tricky in selecting wheels. As long as you pick something that will maintain the look of the 4th gen and is flawless in appearance, then you shouldn't go wrong. Black rims on black is a tricky balancing act, but there have been a few examples with the grand sport styled zr1's that were done well on black z28's. The same goes for the import knock off three piece look z06's. Beware of the chrome slp 10 spokes, because a few of them have had issues with chipping.
On the other hand, a painted set of 10 spokes, nicely done and cleaned up, would represent your ride nicely as well. Many options to choose from, so pick the one that you like best, and go to town!
