Maintenence is not too bad, but compared to chrome, polished wheels (like the TT2) will be more difficult when you do need to polish them up. If you keep them clean (simple soap and water) once a week or so on a daily driver, it's no problem... But if you let it go, it will require more work than a chrome one would in the same condition.

 

Can't you just clearcoat the wheels and solve the entire problem? That's what Ford did to their Shelby GR-1 concept. They shined it up, and clearcoated it so fingerprints wouldn't tarnish the aluminum.

 

I have 18x9.5" C5 wheels on my car. So far I'm happy, but I think I'm going to get a set of the new ZO6 wheels.

 

those C5 wheels look OK - a heck of a lot better than salad shooters, but those C5 wheels never did anything for me, not even on C5s.
