Tire Sizes And Diff. Brands.

PLANNING to purchase ROH- Drift R. Comp. Black wheels: 18x9 and
18x10 respec. Plans sofar are to purchase BFG G-Force Sport for the
front 245x40x18, and Nitto555R ,-285x35x18 for the rear, as Nitto
only one can find with "285".

1) OK to buy diff. brands
2) what would be required offset (5x4.75)
3) OK to have 245 on front and 285 on rear?

1995 Z28 LT1 A4: 3:83: full race suspension, racetronix fuel system,
etc....too much to list..

Re: Tire Sizes And Diff. Brands.

1) OK to buy diff. brands
May show up some mismatch at the extreme limits of handing, but otherwise should work OK. But just for appearance, I'd look for a quality line of tires that has both the sizes you want. I also wouldn't rule out a 275 instead of a 285, since the dimensional differences are small, and similarly a 255 in the front rather than a 245.

2) what would be required offset (5x4.75)
5 x 4.75 is the "bolt pattern", not the offset. For a 9" wide wheel, try and keep the offset in the range of 45mm (toward the outside of the fender) to 55mm (deeper in the fender). For a 10" wide wheel, the same range of offsets will work.

3) OK to have 245 on front and 285 on rear?
It will work. Whether the narrower tire can stand up to high cornering loads in an application that has maybe 58% of the weight on the front end is debatable, but again, any problems would show up at relatively high cornering loads.

Re: Tire Sizes And Diff. Brands.

Thanks so much for your advise..really helps., however few more questions.
1) on the 18x9 wheels do they not require 245's , or do 255's fit as well.
2) and ...I take it yours was a subtille hint that the G-force Sport and
Nitto do not reflect a quality tire? perhaps KDW's have the sizes but also expensive....

275/35/18 for the fronts and a 295/35/18 for the rears or maybe even 305/30/18(if anything is avail. in that size)

This reply does not address my two questions, plus I do not want same
size tires around - 245/255 up front, 275/285 rear, and certainly not
into the 300's. Do the 18x9 require 245's and/or can they accommodate
255's., you feel that G-force sport, and Nitto do not reflect desired quality.

Re: Tire Sizes And Diff. Brands.

245 is a lil narrow for a 9 inch wheel, put at least a 275 on a 9 inch wheel

Re: Tire Sizes And Diff. Brands.

245 or 255 is more suited for an 8 inch wheel. A 9 inch wheel can handle 265-285 well and a 10 inch well would work well with a 285-305. What you are trying to get out of your car would determine partly what kind of tires to get. So withouth knowing what youre looking for in a tire, its hard to give advice on a certain tire.

Re: Tire Sizes And Diff. Brands.

Not sure what references you have on some of the above recommendations. Most manufacturers recommend that the 245/40-18 be mounted on a wheel width of 8.0 - 9.5", so there is no problem putting it on a 9.0" wide wheel. A 285 is too wide for a 9.0" wide wheel.

245/40-18: 8.0" - 9.5"
255/40-18: 8.5" - 10.0"
285/35-18: 9.5" - 11.0"

Yeah, sorry, I was thinking 9.5" wheel, not a 9"
