Tire size question

Tire size question
Ok quick question. I have stock "salad shooters" on my '94 camaro, what are the size limitations for snow tires?
I know you can go 225/55/16 & 215/60/16
can I put on 215/70/16?

Re: Tire size question
First, if you want to maintain speedometer/odometer accuracy, you have to match the outside diameter of your existing tires - which came stock on your car, the 235/55-16's (26.1") or the 245/50-16's (RPO QLC Z-rated option - 25.7")?
Of the sizes you listed:
225/55-16 = 25.7" (OK on an 8" wide wheel)
215/60-16 = 26.1" (Max wheel width 7.5", but could get away with 8")
215/70-16 = 27.9"
235/60-16 = 27.1"
The first two would be the best choices. If you aren't concerned about speedometer/odometer error, you could consider the third, but may have some rubbing problems. Generally, you want a narrower tire for winter driving so the 235 would be out on two counts.
I ran a set of four 225/55-16 Blizzaks on a set of "take off" salad shooters from Tire Rack way back when I first moved from CA to NJ, and they were "OK". Decent snow and ice traction, but don't try and leave hard from a light because dry traction is "limited".

Re: Tire size question
That's a 24.9" tire. Going to look way too small, with a huge gap at the fender line. Speedo error will be 3.1 to 5.2%.
Also, the max wheel width for that tire is 7.5", and it's not going to sit right aon an 8.0" wide wheel.
A 205/60-16 would be a better match on diameter (if your car originally had 245/50-16), and the slightly taller sidewall might accomodate the rim being too wide better than the 55 -series tire.
