Tire help

I currently have kumho ecsta mx 275/45 on a 18X9.5 wheel in the rear. I have gone through two sets in 8 months...I simply can no longer afford this at upper 200s per tire. What can you guys recommend to me that hooks good but has a decent life span?

Re: Tire help

Why are you using a 275/45-18? That's a 27.7" diameter tire. Maybe its wearing out by rubbing on the wheel wells

Do you possibly mean you are running a 275/40 or 275/35-18?

How many miles before they wear out? What wears out.... full tread surfaces or only the edges, or only the center of the tread? All 4 tires, or the fronts or the backs? Are you rotating the tires?

The survey data at Tire Rack indicates that the best tread wear results for tires in this category are the Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3.

Re: Tire help

Sorry my bad, 275/40 tires

The entire tire is being worn down, and they last about 7 thousand miles at the most, and only the rear tyires are beign worn. I have the Kumho 712s in the front and they still look new after 8 months.

The goodyear tire looks good, but the tread wear isbn't that much higher. How much longer could I expect it to last?

Re: Tire help

Have you tried rotating them? That would double the life of a set of 4. I honestly don't know about the tread life on the Goodyears. Its just the highest rates tire for tread wear in the survey. But none of them seem to have much to offer in the way of tread life. That's the trade-off, generally, on a sticky tire.

Re: Tire help

if they are the same size, you CAN and SHOULD rotate every 5-6k miles...what do the model differences matter?

Re: Tire help

Might have been a good idea to include that info in the initial post, so we didn't waste our time telling you to rotate them.

Re: Tire help

Well i figured sense I mentioned I had 712s upfront which would do horrible as rear tires, and would be pointless to put good sticky tires in the front....that you guys would not waste your time anyway.

I have C5 rims, fronts are 17s rears are 18s, I did not buy **** tires....they are around 275 a piece and I did not skimp on anything.

I really don't know of any performance tire combo that you could rotate tires with. Rear tires need to be soft to hook well, front tires can be harder, and are meant for handling, channeling water, dealing with ice ect. It really wouldn't make sense to buy performance all summer tires for the front with a 220 tread

Thanks for posting, but your comment did not in anyway help me decide on my next tire purchase...so it was useless.

Re: Tire help

k, here, you want longer life out of the tires, lose the staggard setup so you can rotate. and you yourself dont have confidence in your tires, so id say they are **** tires

youre in the wrong car if you want long lasting tires

even with rotatable tires, be lucky to get 20-30k out of high performance zrated rubber

I said I was getting 8 thousand miles to a tire...I have no problemw ith buying new tires everyonce in a while...but that's just crazy.

I am not going to change to a setup I can rotate because I would rather have very specfic types of tires in the front and back.

Thanks again for pointing it out that I should...but I would rather get a tire in the back that is meant to be a rear driven tire.

Re: Tire help

I got 8,000 on my nittos A little worn, but still there doing their thing.

You can't find a tire that lets you hook up and go 20-30,000miles, they don't exist otherwise we'd all be using them. Run a harder tire and spin the tires if you want 30,000 miles.

Re: Tire help

Maybe someone needs to adjust their driving style....

I have BFG KD in the rear with at least 8,000 miles and they're still looking new. This is on a daily driven car too.

I agree w/Zack, the 712's are POO! I have them up front and they suck hairy ones.
