Tire Brand Selection Help

I just purchased 17X9 10 spoke camaro SS rims. I live in NJ so winter/summer tires are prefered due to the snow. I'm not looking for a seperate set of tires for winter and summer. What brand and type of tire has the least tread wear that will fit on these rims? I see that 275/40/17 seem to be popular in size.

Yes, 275/40/17 is the stock SS tire size. They're almost exactly the same circumference as 245/50/16 tires, which are very likely on your car now. That means no speedometer recalibration is necessary.

BFGoodrich g-Force TA KDWS are supposed to be decent in snow.

That said, I would *never* take an F-body out in the snow on 275's, snow-rated or otherwise. Even Blizzaks would be a lot of work with that much tire. It's just silly.

Why don't you want to have two sets of tires? Get some nice summer tires for your 17" rims, and put a set of Blizzaks on your old rims.

Nothing eats up alloy wheels like roads covered with salt and sand. All it takes is a pinhole in the clear coat, and your wheel is ruined. I would never leave my "good" wheels on my car in the winter in NJ.

When my Formula was winter driven in NJ, it rolled on a set of 4 Blizzaks mounted on take-off salad shooters. My 17" alloys stayed in the garage.

thanks for the advice, looks like the common sense idea is to run the 16s in the winter and 17s when the snow has past.

Re: Tire Brand Selection Help

Take the money you would spend on tires and buy a winter beater. You pay less money on insurance for a few months and dont risk wrecking your pride and joy. Just my $.02.
