tire with

I had nitto 500z 24550zr16 and they seem wider the then my new bfgoodrich should i go to the nitto 555 are they wider then the bfg i am runing 245/45-zr17 on slp 17x8 zr rim and what handels better

usally nitto tires are not as wide as a bfg. i like bfg tires better then nitto and the bfg seems to grip better to me.

The tire section width (e.g - "245") is a "nominal" dimension - not an exact dimension. There is no assurance that two 245 section width tires will actually be the same width. If you are looking at some other dimension, like tread width, there are no standards at all. The tread width can be whatever the tire manufacturer decides to make it. And there is no consistancy that makes a wider tread grip any better than a narrow tread width. The tire compound is way more important than the actual measured width.
