Stock to 245/45 tire: Drawbacks?
Stock to 245/45 tire: Drawbacks?
Would like to get some Toyo T1-S tires, it appears as if they only come in 245/45. I'm still running with my salad shooters. I guess this might be more appropriate in the wheels/tires sections. But I wanted to a little more tech feedback, for example, how would this affect my speedo calibrations?
Your speedo will read a little higher than the actual speed.
Ride quality may be reduced slightly, however steering feel and response should be slightly improved. Shouldn't cause any major problems though since there's only a minor difference.

Should help with steering response. Where your old tires the 235 or 245 series?
You speedo will read slightly faster than your actual speed. I know www.tirerack.com has tire diameter specs for all the tires they sell. Find the size you have now, and divide it by the new tire diameter and that is the multiplication factor of how much faster your speedo will read.
Example: Old tire 25.4" diameter, new tire 25.0" diameter
25.4/25.0 = 1.016
So at 70 mph you are actually going 70/1.016 = 68.9 mph
If they were already 245's before, you will see very little difference, assuming that this tire is similar to your old one.
I noticed a big difference going from the 235 size to the 245/50-16.

all those 94s with the 115mph speedo are in the same boat. they came with 235/55/16s i think and i ran 245 50 16s for like 4-5 years before figuring out my speedo was maybe 5-10% fast, and my odo was raping me by the same amount
brian at pcmforless.com corrected that

A 245/45-16 is just about a full 1" smaller in diameter than the stock 245/50-16. Consequences:
Ride height will drop 1/2"
Gap between tire and fender will increase by 1/2"
Speedo will read about 4% higher than you are actually going, or 62.4mph at a true 60mph
Odometer will show 1,040 miles driven, when you actually went 1,000 miles
The last two problems can be cured by a PCM reprogram.
