Stay 16" or go 17"?

On a stock height car, would 17's make a difference as far as appearance? My neighbor doesn't want it lowered so he is trying to determine if 17"s would be worth it or just stay with the 16's.Thanks

Re: Stay 16" or go 17"?

My findings are that you can get a much wider tire in the stock ride height if you go to the 17's. I have 16's and I'm really limited to 245 width or 255 width and a little taller. 17's seem that 275 wide are very popular and easy to find.
In case you don't understand tire sizing....
The first 3 numbers are the tread width in millimeters, the second 2 numbers are the percentage of the width that represent sidewall height and the last numbers are obviously rim size in inches. The example would be a 245/50/16 (common size on older f bodys) are 245 millimeters wide with a 122.5 millimeter sidewall height.
So a 275/45/17 would be 30 millimeters (little more than a inch) wider than 245/50/16. Hope this helps!

Theres a pretty big difference in looks between 16 & 17 inch.

Is he thinking of any wheel in particular?

If he went to a 17", I am 99.99 percent sure that he would go with Z06 rims(17 X 9.5 all around),probably with a 275/40/17. That would be a better contact patch too. What about the fender gap, would 17's help out with that?? I know that it looks horrible with 16's.but he doesn't want it lowered.

The gap will be the same, the only way to fix the gap on the F body's is to lower the car.

I have some Borbet 17x9.5's for sale. They're about 4 years old but I'll let them go pretty cheap.

I got 16's and wish I would of went with 17's. Tires are alot more for 17's though. Since im a broke college student, 17's are not in my price book
