So do I need to break out the hammer or what?
From what I have been hearing some 18X10.5's will not fit on my car in the rear because it is vert (1995 Z28). I have been hearing people say I could "massage" the fenders out to make them fit. How would I go about doing this? I think busting out a ball ping hammer and going to town on my fenders would not be a good idea.

i hear people saying certain wheels will not fit on verts, and other people saying that the do. It is really a toss up. I think what is meant by massaging is your clearancing your inner fender wells. Take a mini sledge and push them as far back as possible. If you need to do the fender lips. get a wooden baseball bat and roll it in between the tire and the fender lip. Maybe even get a couple buddies to sit on the back. Thats what i did.

I've compared the wheel wells of a 97 SS convertible to my 94 Formula coupe, both cars running 17x11 GS offset wheels with BFG 315/35's, and I could find no measurable difference between the wheel wells on the two cars. I think that wheel dealers are simply parroting the GM decision not to put even 17's on the SS/WS6 convertibles, but that seemed to be based on something other than interference.... maybe ride quality of something????

In '96 when I was initially ordering a '97 SS Vert, I was told by both the dealer and by SLP that the 16" wheel choice was that the convertibles tended to rattle enough as is, and the hope was to minimize that via more compliance from the sidewall of 16" tires.
