So after my first time at the track, I realize I need better gripping tires (I have cheap street tires now). I need a tire that will be great on the track, and good on the road.

In Tucson I don't have to deal with much rain, and the car rarely sees speeds above fifty with my daily driving. I was thinking the M/T ET Streets would be good (are these even considered a drag radial?) but would like to hear some other input.

The owner of the car before me had on some Nitto 555R's and he was able to put down some good times with them.

 

I'd go with Nitto 555R just because they're pretty good on the street, as long as your not putting out a crapload of power you should get some decent traction out of them at the track. A lot of people usually have a dragstrip setup and then a street setup. If you don't like the fact of having two different setups, and want to avoid changing tires for street/track, the Nitto 555r's are probably your best bet.

 

M/T ET Streets are not "drag radials", and are terrible on the street. The M/T drag radial is the ET Street Radial. Excellent traction, short tread life, not good in the wet. The Nitto is just the opposite, not as much traction, but the tread lasts longer and they are decent in the wet. BFG Drag Radials are in the middle on both.

 

With the weather out here, you will have no problems running a drag radial like the 555R's. I have a couple buddies that run them on thier DD's without a complaint. I just mounted some 315 555R's on my new rims and I am going to run them daily also.

 

with your mods, i'd personally go w/ teh nitto 555r's. the mickeys might be a lil too sticky for you.

unless you get urself a cheap set of wheels for track use only, and get a set of 225/50/16's for those. those should stick fairly well, and with the smaller diameter tire, it should compensate for your stock gears, and not kill your gas mileage.
