Running 10.5" rim up front

I recently bought a set of 17X10.5" rims for all for corners. Well like a dumbass i never bolted them on when i got them to see if they fit alright before my 30 money back ran out. Well today i took one out and bolted it on and the fron looks very, very close. I seem to have about a 1/4" between the rim and spindel and it kinda scares me. Is there anyone out there running a 10.5" rim in the front and are you haveing any issues. I would like to know before i go and buy 2 new rims. Thanks for any help.

There's guys on here with 17"X11" with the correct offset and a small spacer. What offset are your rims?

What year car... or do we presume from your screen name that you have a 3rd Gen?

Re: Running 10.5" rim up front

Can't be a 70.5mm offset. That offset on a 10.5" wide wheel would be a 8.5" backspace. Would not fit front or back. Sounds like you may have about a 7.5" BS, which would be about a 45mm offset.

I have a 7.42" backspace on my front 17x9.5's. That puts the inside edge of the wheel pretty close to the steering knuckle. So it would seem that if you have 1/4" of clearance, you should be OK. That clearance will never change... the edge of the rim can not move relative to the steering knuckle.

Re: Running 10.5" rim up front

Some people have run 315s all around for an autocross setup. Your setup should be fine, except that you'll get some tire rub if you turn the wheel too far, so parking might take a little more work. And make sure you run a wide enough tire for that rim size, I've noticed a lot of people have been putting tires on that are too narrow for their rims. Looks retarded to me, not to mention having an adverse effect on handling.
