Rubber "shavings" inside tire?

I recently had something puncture my Nitto 555R and when I took it in to get it plugged, they took it off the wheel and found rubber "dust" or "shavings" (kind of like after you erase something with an eraser). They said it couldn't be remounted because of this. Anyone know anything about this? I can't see any wear on the lip of the tire; it all looks fine!?!

Thanks!
Jeremy

How would the shavings get *INSIDE* of the tire though?? I actually went and had the hole patched and tire remounted about 2 hours ago. Seems to be doing fine!?!

where did you got? discount tire?

we call it 'run flat' it happens when the tire is ran low on pressure, the inside of the sidewall rubs itself and does that. sometimes it causes a 'heat ring' on the outside sidewall by the sidewall rubbing against the street surface. we got strict stuff about flat repairs on us, and its all liability purposes to not put it back on

So should I not be driving on it? Do you think it's safe?

Yah, like Zach said "run flat" there is also most likely a thing called a "heat ring" on the sidewall, basically a ring around the sidewall where it has been run on and has weakened the sidewall

Zach, which DTC you work at?

There was about 1 handful in there. How can I tell if it's not safe? The sidewall "looked" perfectly normal.

the outside sidewall CAN look perfectly normal. the danger lies on what happened on the inside. The side wall is now a little weaker from parts of it rubbed off.

IF they wouldnt mount it back up, hows if back on the vehicle?

I took it somewhere else and they mounted it no problem.
