Prostar Alternatives

Since weld prostars are intended for drag use, and they don't make the 16 inchers anymore, does anyone know of any rims (16" or 17") that look similar to the prostar design that will fit an LS1 without spacers, grinding calipers etc...

Re: Prostar Alternatives

The only Welds that are not street legal are the 15x3.5's. All the other widths are street legal. They are not intended for high lateral loading like Auto-X, but normal street use is OK.

Re: Prostar Alternatives

Hey Fred, what will I need to ensure that these wheels will fit my 99 Z? Will any caliper grinding or spacers be needed?

Cragar (for front)
341 Series Street Star Wheel
Size: 15'' x 8''
Bolt Circle: 5 x 4-3/4''
Rear Spacing: 4-1/8''

Cragar (for rear)
341 series Street Star Wheel
Size: 15" x 10"
Bolt Circle: 5 x 4-3/4"
Rear Spacing: 4-1/8"

These wheels look very similar to the prostars but are a little cheaper

Re: Prostar Alternatives

I don't know about the clearance required for the brakes on the LS1 cars, so I can't help you there.

But I can tell you the backspace on those wheels are wrong. The 15x10's in the rear need a 7.5" backspace. The 4-1/8" backspace will put the tires 3" outside the fenders. In the front, you need at least a 5.5" backspace on the 15x8 wheel.

This is a view of a 15x10" wheel with a 7.5" backspace, with a 28x10.5-15W slick on it. You can see that you would not want the tires any further toward the outside of the fenders. Also click on the "Trailer queen...." link in my signature.
