Poll: To paint or not to paint?
Poll: To paint or not to paint?
This whole gunmetal/black rim polished lip thing has really got me wondering.
I love my wheels, they look great and everyday i get atleast 1 person who walks up and asks me where i got them or just compliments them in general.
But the new thread about gunmetal smoothies got me thinking about painting them black and leaving the lip polished. I think it would look mean as hell on my car. But im afraid of not liking it.
If enough people say it would look good, ill probably do it.
Also, anyone know if they could be re-polished if i didnt like the way they turned out?
Well let me know what you think.

Re: Poll: To paint or not to paint?
Im kinda leaning that way i think, i think it would look awesome(better than most black/poilished lip wheels) because of the thickness of the lip.
Im just scared to do it to 6 month old wheels
Id definently pay someone to do it right than do a hack job myself though.

definelty pay someone who can do the job right
since they are polished alum., it should be an easier job for whoever does it, sicne there isnt chrome to get stripped

Re: Poll: To paint or not to paint?
Ive heard of a place in town that does power coating. Do that. It will turn out much better, and last much longer than painting them. If you dont like them there are also wheel repair places here too that Im sure could clean them up and re-polish them for ya
Oh yea, I think your wheels powder coated black would make that liscense plate of yours more fitting too

Re: Poll: To paint or not to paint?
copper coat the center's... chrome the barrels.
It'd be a shame to hide those spokes in black paint... they're way too agressive to "downplay". Personally I like'm polished... but I've been itchin to see someone use a copper/brass color plating on a black car.
Think 10th Anniversary Firehawk but plated, not painted.

Black [wheels] on Black [exterior] isn't the best color combo IMO. There have been a few posts in the App. section showing black/polished lip ZR1's on black cars, and it just doesn't look good to me. It sort of looks cheesy IMO.
Gunmetal on black, however, I think is absolutely gorgeous.
It would look a lot better with gunmetal/polished lip...but my wheels have no lip, so, that's out the window on these wheels.
Go gunmetal/polished lip. It will look a lot more aggressive. If you want bling though, then just stick with what you got.
You should have no problem polishing them back out if you change your mind. It will just take a little of time and hard work I am sure, as with polishing any wheel. The only problems I see there is - if powdercoated, then I am not sure how to remove powdercoat, etc...so you might wanna find that out first. Then if painted, whoever is gonna have to scuff them up to get the paint to stick - which is perfectly alright, because you are supposed to do about 4-5 stages of sanding with different grits before polishing something in the first place - but it polishes out fine.
Mmmmmmmm...

Re: Poll: To paint or not to paint?
Im not doing the copper color, just doesnt work for me.
Im not a big fan of ZR1's black with a polished lip either merely because there is no lip. But i would have about 3" of lip to show off.

edit: have you seen the black T/A in ferns new car thread with the motosport ZO6's in black with a poilished lip? That car looks great.
