pointless to run nitto 555r on the street if...???
I have been thinking of buying some 275/40/17 nitto 555r's. But was curious if the HOPEFULLY few times on the street that I do happen to race, do I have to warm up the tires to have any kind of better traction over regular street tires, or will these still have alot better traction than a street tire even if I don't warm up the tires with a burn out. Thanks for any help.

All 3 of the major brand DRs (Nitto, BFG, M/T) need a little heat to work well, but all will work better than a regular tire on the street even without heat. I have never used the Nittos, but I know that the BFGs hook good on the street and the M/Ts hook great everywhere...and for drag racing, the 16" will hook better than the 17" because the 16" tire has more side wall...good luck...

By just driving on them they heat up enough for traction and will outdue a regular radials on the street. They will not last as long nor will they handle wet/snow roads like street tires.

The thing about soft tires is that they pick up a lot of debris (gravel, sand, etc). It is always beneficial to spin them a little prior to a run to clean them off.
Driving on them isn't going to keep them clean or heat them enough for optimum traction. When you first get on it you will spin just as bad as with a regular tire, but after you've spun a little they will heat up and give you traction no regular radial will.
I ran MT's on my 70 SS and am running BFG KD on my 00 SS. They are the same way.

The thing I am wondering though is since I have a 10 bolt is it likely for me to break the rear end with my 3.73 gears. Cause what if I do try to spin them but I get traction at a high enough rpm? Is there an rpm I can spin it at and know I am not going to get enough traction to break the rear end?

Seems like when my cars get 7.70 or faster in the 1/8th is when the 10 bolts start popping but some people have yet to break them and have been quicker than that.
And DR's do pick up ALOT of debris

People have broken the 10 bolt stock, and some are running 11's on the 10 bolt.
If you are spinning when moving, the chance of breakage is less than if you are at a standstill and hook.

you won't break a 10-bolt on 555R trust me Last time I was at the track i was sideways off the line. I didn't heat them very well. Best 60' i have run is a 1.769
