Pirellis or Kumhos?

I am buying 2 new tires next week and I have 2 choices:

Pirelli Nero Zero M+S

-or-

Kumho Ecsta ASX

They are almost the same price (Pirellis being $7 more) so that isn't the issue.

Is there a big difference in the quality/performance between the two? I need some facts/opinions on them and if you have had one or even both of them at some point, please feel free to elaborate.

Just a little info about the car:
1998 Camaro V6
Tire size: 245/50/16
Car uses: Mostly an "A to B" car, the occasional street race, no burning out, no excessive speeding, no hard braking

Thanks for your help.

If I missed anything, please ask

Re: Pirellis or Kumhos?

I've heard good about both. One has mud & snow rating while the other is a summer tire. They're both probably more tire than your 3.8 can easily over power, which is a good thing.

But which is which? I would rather have the better summer tire than the better snow tire. In Texas (as you already know) the heat lasts for quite a while.

Re: Pirellis or Kumhos?

I've got Pirellis on my daily driver. Very satisfied with them.

After seeing this:

I am going with the Pirellis, the numbers aren't that much higher, but I will pay the extra $14. Thanks for the info people.

Re: Pirellis or Kumhos?

Are the Kumho 712s supposed to be better/worse/equal to the above mentioned tires?

The 712's suck BAD!!! I have a set, they're marginally better than the stock F1's in dry traction, do well w/wet traction, but very much more out of round. They took a lot of weight to balance. I would in no way recommend them. Not even for a stock 6 cyl. They made up my mind to spend the extra cash to get good tires from now on. The rear of my SS now sports BFG KD's. Why have a performance car w/crappy tires that hold you back?

BlueV6,
I was thinking about the Kumho MX not ASX. The people I've heard from on the ASX like them better than the 712.
Check out the Fuzion ZRi. I've been reading all good reports on them. People seem to like the Nitto 555 also.

tirerack.com is a great place to read reviews and to do comparisons.

I've heard great things about fusion zri's its too bad they have limited sizes though (They offer 16's and 17's for our cars but not 18s)

Re: Pirellis or Kumhos?

the fuzion is a nice tire, i had them on my car before the wheel swap and the gear change, (durign too) with 2.73 gear on my lt1 it was hard to break them loose under the right conditions, and now i have pirelli Roso's on my car (asymetrical) they are GREAT completely insane in the corners and can pull a 2.0 60ft with no burnout (i was afraid to be burning off a brand new 300$ tire lmao) im definately happy with my pirellis little pricey but a very nice tire. the ZRi fuzion is a great tire too if price matters at all ild say theyld be perfect for a V6 good wet traction too (not great but good) good luck choosing, and if i remember correctly the pirelli m+s is an all season tire? that was the tire i was looking at and wanted but i didnt want a 40 series on 18s

Re: Pirellis or Kumhos?

I liked my 712's. I had no problem cutting 1.8x 60' times with them.
