Original Tire Brand For 02 SS?

I just purchased a set of 17x9 chrome TTM's for my 02 Z Convertible & am now looking for tires. I wanted to stay with the approx. size & brand of the SS combo. I asked a guy at a Goodyear tire dealer about tires for an 02 SS & he said G/Y didn't make a tire for that car. I was dumbfounded & now wondering what tire brand & style was on the SS. I determined the size was 275/40/17. Thanx.

Goodyear makes 3 different tires in the 275/40-17 that was stock on the SS coupes. I thought the factory tire for the SS coupes was a Goodyear Eagle F1, either the GS or the "All Season". The best choice today would be the Eagle F1 GS-D3.... excellent wet and dry traction. Much better than the other two.

The GY dealer is probably confused because you have the SS convertible. I thought the convertibles only came with 16" wheels/tires, as opposed to the coupes that came with the 17x9 wheels and 275/40-17 tires. When the dealer looks in his book, he doesn't see a 17" tire for an SS convertible. They don't seem to be able or willing to think outside the very limited box at times, or they are afraid of product liability issues for putting a different tire on the car than it left the factory with.

There is no reason to stay with Goodyear.... there are also some other top-rated tires that would be good choices.

Thanks for the reply injuneer. I have a Z28 convertible, not an SS convertible. I want to go with the SS(coupe or convert.) wheel size/tire combo because I know that will work with no problems. I simply asked the guy at GY(a Sears Automotive store) what is the tire for an SS, not mentioning convertible. He obviously doesn't know what he's doing. I'm going to call back & ask to speak to someone else, because they have better prices that other GY distributors in the area. While they may be better priced or better handling when pushed, I don't really want *** brand tires on my AMERICAN Racing wheels on my AMERICAN car. No tuner tires for me. I'm an old school gear head. I've had a 57 Chevy Bel Air, 70 Mustang fastback, 73 Duster, 69 Camaro, 70 1/2 Z28 & the current 02 Z28. I'm now in the market for the 275/40/ZR17 GY's. 'Preesh man!

I relate to the old school stuff.... 56 Bel Air convertible, 63 Impala 327/300, 66 GTO 3x2, 68 Firebird 350, 73 Grand Prix 455 HO..... then a bunch of station wagons until the kids were grown up, and the 94 Formula came along. All of those except the 56 Bel Air were purchased new.

Yes like mentioned the Camaro SS and Firebird WS6 models from 98+ came with:

17x9 wheels on all four corners
Goodyear Eagle F1's 275/40/17's

Thats how I saw them on the lots brand new!God knows I spent many nights on the lots drooling over them!
