Measuring wheel width ?
Measuring wheel width ?
When measuring a wheel, in this instance a 17x11 SS style wheel. Do you measure from the inside of the bead to inside of bead or from the wheel lip to wheel lip to get the overall 11"?
I just got a set of Bogart road race wheels and I ordered the fronts in 17x11 to put 315's on. When I got them the measure 12" lip to lip and stick out of the fenders. Bogart says they measure their wheels from bead to bead. I'm trying to get this bogart in the same sizeas a 17x11 SS. Help. Thanks.

Re: Measuring wheel width ?
There are a few guides to wheel measurements on the 'net, including at Tire Rack and at the Skulte sites, but the new one on the M/T site is pretty clear:

You also need to keep in mind that while the "width" of the wheel between the beads is well defined, the width of the lip is a "variable", and can be slightly different from wheel to wheel. The AFS ZR1 replicas use a lip that measures 0.460", for example.

Re: Measuring wheel width ?
Thank you both. Is it possible that the aftermarket K-member and A-arms I have have moved the track out more than stock? It's an Agostino K-member and lower arms with BMR upper arms. I'm concerned as when I got the front wheels and put them on the car they appeared to stick out much more than I thought they would. Now granted, the car is on jackstands with no tires mounted on the wheels and possibly it's an optical illusion but I've seen 17x11's with 315's on the front of several F-bodys and they don't look bad at all. Mayby it's just me. BTW these wheels have a 49mm offset and when mounted just barley clear the spindle so they're in as far as they can go.

i'm asking him if he is putting 17 x 11's on the front. Why would i........"search".......... for it? I know that some people put 17 x 11's on the front for road racing, but most street cars with that setup put 17 x 9 1/2's on the front. I'm just saying that might be why his is sticking out in the front
Re: Measuring wheel width ?
There are quite a few people that have 11's all the way around. What I'm saying is that mine seem to protrude father out than other pictures I've seen of the same setup. However, I do not have SS wheels so I'm wondering if I measured everything correctly with this different type of wheel.

Dave:
What is the measured backspace on the Bogart wheels? Which "17x11 SS style wheels" were you trying to match.... the 50mm offset (7.93" BS) or the 36.5mm (7.43" BS)?
